HOPLAND, Ca., 5/7/24 – Mendo Pride will host its second annual LGBTQ Pride event in Hopland on Saturday, May 18, 2024. The family-friendly event features music by KZYX’s Pride Radio, art vendors, fun activities and booths from community organizations followed by a drag show. CASPAR, 5/4/24 — With one roaring exception, all the usual sounds of spring have returned to the Jackson Demonstration State Forest in Caspar.
The woodpeckers whoop their exotic songs, the swallows dive and chirp while making their nests, the bears lumber through brush, the hikers, bikers and mushroom hunters (with permit) explore favorite trails that have become new again. While much of the huge forest exists permanently in a kind of cathedral like silence, the oppressively wet winter blossomed and birthed millions or billions of bugs, birds, mammals, amphibians and even a reptile or two.

MENDOCINO Co., 5/2/23 — Donut fans have probably heard the hype about Drop In Donut. The family-owned donut and coffee shop in downtown Fort Bragg creates small batch donuts, many with seasonal ingredients. It is quite common, especially on the weekends, for hungry donut lovers to line up five or six deep for Drop In Donut’s yeast and cake donuts.

UKIAH, 5/1/23 – This week’s featured pet is Yeti, who is available for adoption at the Ukiah Animal Shelter. Yeti is a two-year-old Great Pyrenees.

MENDOCINO Co., 4/30/24 — Beginning May 1, CAL FIRE Mendocino will require burn permits for people who want to conduct a residential or various other kinds of controlled burns due to the increase in warm weather and increasingly dry conditions. The permits can be applied for online thanks to the agency’s new online system, and those planning a burn will also need to check with the Mendocino County Air Quality Management District to ensure that it is a permissive burn day.
