PITTSBURGH — President Joe Biden is calling for a tripling of tariffs on Chinese steel and aluminum to protect American producers from a flood of cheap imports, and will pitch his election-year plan during a visit Wednesday with steelworkers in Pennsylvania, where union support could prove crucial in the White House race.
The move reflects the intersection of Biden’s international trade policy with his reelection effort. The White House insists the move is more about shielding American manufacturing from unfair trade practices overseas tha ..read more

Disney’s proposal for growing its theme parks in Anaheim received approval from the Anaheim City Council early Wednesday, a consequential vote that will shape the resort and city for decades and is expected to bring in millions more visitors a year.
The development agreement the city is agreeing to maps out where new theme park construction could occur over the next 40 years, giving Disney flexibility to determine what exactly would be built – though all still within the footprint of its current properties. For people avoiding caffeine, decaf coffee seems like a harmless option. But some health advocacy groups that argue otherwise are petitioning the US Food and Drug Administration to ban a key chemical involved in the decaffeination process due to cancer concerns.
That chemical is methylene chloride, a colorless liquid that’s used in certain industrial processes, “including paint stripping, pharmaceutical manufacturing, paint remover manufacturing, and metal cleaning and degreasing,” according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Tensions are rising over a new monthly charge planned for California’s electricity bills, which are already the highest in the nation.
A new fixed monthly fee is scheduled to be adopted by California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in May, but a legislative battle is brewing to block it. Let’s cut right to the chase: 2024 will not be an easy year for the nation’s home buyers. The shortage of available homes will continue, which will hold prices aloft. And though mortgage rates may come down a bit throughout the year, they’ll continue to play a major role in affordability for buyers who need a home loan.
The pandemic disrupted many things, not the least of which was the housing market. The seasonal fluctuations we’d generally expect in housing prices and inventory were upended in 2020 and 2021. And while 2023 data indicates a return to more typi ..read more

A ground stop that earlier paused Alaska Airlines’ flights has been lifted.
“This morning we experienced an issue while performing an upgrade to the system that calculates our weight and balance. Out of an abundance of caution, we requested a ground stop for all Alaska and Horizon flights, which was instituted at approximately 7:30am PT. The issue was mitigated and the ground stop for Alaska and Horizon flights expired at 8:30am PT,” the airline said in a statement to CNN.

ST. LOUIS — Anheuser-Busch InBev’s beer sales dropped by $1.5 billion in North America last year, but its nonalcoholic beer sales are exceeding expectations, a shift experts credit to consumers becoming more health-conscious and beverage choices expanding.
The company’s no-alcohol beer portfolio, which includes Budweiser Zero, Stella Artois 0.0, O’Doul’s and Busch NA, saw revenue growth “in the high teens,” according to A-B’s annual report.
It comes at a good time for the company. Consumers appear to be moving away from alcoholic beverages, accordin ..read more

The Cracker Barrels in Sacramento and Santa Maria have closed, the chain confirmed, without giving any reason more specific than “performance.”
