Hello all, I just started a security job and am having trouble finding good high protein foods that I don't have to heat up. I work security in my car so I do not have access to microwaves or ovens and I was hoping I could get some help. I've always struggled with my weight with my highest weight being around 360lb's (163kg) then dropping to 300lb (136kg) last year before I went to basic training and losing an additional 70lb putting me at 230lb (104kg) at my lowest. Since then I've slipped up quite a bit and am currently sitting at about 275lb (124kg). It's taking a large effect on me mental ..read more

Partner found out they are pre-diabetic and has high cholesterol: cheap meal recommendations?

My partner (27m) got their blood work back and was informed that their cholesterol is high and that they are also pre-diabetic. This definitely came as a shock as they are a very active person (rock climbs 2-3x/week, rollerskates 1-2x/week). They are also only 15 lbs over their "recommended" weight for their height. Anyways. We're kinda broke. Despite this, we typically eat fairly well. No fast food. Ever. Lots of ground pork/beef since we find it on sale pretty often. We eat white rice a lot. Any recommendations for cheap recipes that are healthy? And would fit within the diet for someone wi ..read more

Made back to back large meals for cheap want to share what they were!

So I bought half the items at costco, half at the grocery store. You can do either. I basically made stir fry twice. Sliced beef and sliced chicken pre cooked each. Obviously gonna cost a bit more being sliced and pre cooked. Good way to cut the cost. Frozen veggies - made sure I did not have any corn in the veggies and made sure I had brocolli. Added white rice for one, added brown rice with quiona for the other. Spices - I bought hot sauce samplers and $1 hot sauces from walmart. You can definitely do better in bulk for hot sauce, but this is an excellent option for food. Fried them both ..read more

I want to start eating more fresh things, but everything fresh I eat has a weird taste. It's almost like the taste of a ln air freshner or fresh mown grass. I've heard there is a name for this condition but I don't remember. Any thoughts to what I add in with the veggies to dampen that taste? submitted by /u/Ok_Standard_468 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Super-Easy Depression Meals (Blind baby levels of easy)

I'm looking for some pointers on healthy meals just to get something in me for all 3 meal times. Preferably stuff that won't break the bank! Since I suffer from clinical depression- eating is really hard, and anything requiring cutting up things is what my brain considers "too much effort." But I want to sustain myself with healthy meals instead of random junk food that's easy to grab. Basically, I'm talking about Lunchables-type easy. I've been looking around different sites and other Reddit posts but I thought I'd try seeing if anyone has some ideas. It's probably an insult to the culinar ..read more

Cooking for grandmas and a toddler?

I'm looking for some lunch/dinner ideas to feed 2 elderly midwesterners, myself, and a toddler 2-3 days a week. My grandmas are my daycare for my son, and now that he's eating more solid food I offered to make lunch for all of us whenever possible. The problem is, the grandmas are a little picky/don't eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, but I want my son to eat as many fruits and vegetables as possible (before he enters the picky eating stage of toddlerhood, anyway). Any ideas for cheap & healthy options, that can either be made ahead or require minimal prep? Sheet pan meal ideas ..read more

End of the month soup.

Far a gallon of soup I use minimum half a kilo lean cow meat very tough needs a deep boil. I boil the meat by it self for an hour to get rid of as much scum as possible. Then I literally clean my fridge and throw away any mouldy veggies. Then I add to the soup all acceptable scraps wilted soft veggies etc. I season to my liking and boil for another 3 hours. We have soup that day and once it gets cold I fill plastic cups with soup. When they get frozen it's very easy to store sideways upside down it's freezer Tetris. Sometimes when i need a flavor bomb I add a cup of frozen soup to my dishes ..read more

Cheaper alternative to Ensure Plus?
Reddit - Eating healthy on a cheap budget

I have been drinking Ensure Plus daily to help provide extra nutrients. I am a picky eater (unfortunately) and don't get enough nutrition without ensure. The cost is outrageous though. Is there a cheaper alternative with ~300 calories, at least 15g of protein, and a decent amount of vitamins/minerals? I don't mind if it's in powder form or liquid and don't care how much sugar it contains or taste. I'm just trying to save money (Ensure plus costs $55 for 30 bottles). Thanks! submitted by /u/segaman1 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
