Herman Sörgel's plan
Gave us Grand Gibraltar Dam
Now we're in a jam
— Graffiti on the spillway
Dam up the Mediterranean to "reclaim" 250,000 square miles of land and generate more than enough hydroelectricity to power everything built on and around it: It seems farfetched, yet this Atlantropa Project is exactly what architect Herman Sörgel proposed in 1928. In our world, the idea was dismissed as far too costly and politically dangerous, not to mention technologically overambitious . . . but there are timelines in which it was seen as almost the opposite, a solution to economic a ..read more

Just come across this article in The Register
Quote:
The Robotic Autonomy in Complex Environments with Resiliency (RACER) program has entered a new phase of research that includes testing the RACER Heavy Platform (RHP), a 20-foot long, 12-ton (6 meter, 10.8 metric ton) tracked "optionally manned combat/fighting vehicle."
Long long way to go so maybe this post should be Ogre Mk -1 ..read more

Hey GURPS fans! This is my first time on the forum and I wanted to start my career with a question much like the thread on "50 point overpowered advantages."
Let me explain this with an example:

Permeation is an advantage that allows you to pass through a substance as if it didn't exist. You are affected by gravity, though, unlike Insubstantiality. What if that was always on? What if you took Permeation (Earth) |40|, and added Always On |-40%|, Can Carry Objects (Light) |+20%|. Now you sink into the earth at falling speed. I don't think that would cost you |32| points...

I've been doing additional work on my space opera setting, trying to get my brain in gear, and have been focusing on the arms and armor wielded by the professional soldier, planetary/station security forces, and privateers/adventurers.
This being a safetech TL11^ setting, the primary weapons in the setting are rainbow lasers and blasters, with plasma weapons, sonic weapons (primarily stunners with the occasional Spider Jerusalem style bowel disruptor), force swords, superfine blades, and vibroblades, with gyroc (15mm) micromissiles, grenade launchers (25mm and 40mm), 40mm minimissiles, and sh ..read more

Big thanks to everyone involved in getting the new plastic out - watching TM Every Other Sunday and cutting sprues!
First thought is that the Bigfoot mobile howitzer barrels are going to break in my hands (amazed I managed to get them off in one piece)....
Wondering about drilling them out and replacing with yard brush hair rather than wire as it's a bit thicker and does not keep the kinks in it if it gets bent.
Anyone else any ideas ..read more

Hey all,
Coupled with my discussion of overland speculative trade a few weeks (months?) ago, I've been brainstorming a system for running "hexcrawls" in GURPS.
First of all, huge shout out to Bill Stoddard and Sean Punch for their previous advice and work on DF16 - Wilderness Adventures, respectively. They've been an immense help! On to the actual topic.
From DF16 - Wilderness Adventures, p. 27: "Conquerors and delvers prize area maps. Creating these on foot means zigzagging across a region for longer than is fun for most players."
My question here is, assuming you did have players interes ..read more
