Northern Beaches Kinesiology

What would your story look like/be if you could choose to write the bravest version. One without restrictions or fears. Let’s start not from a “imagine the grandest life”, but right now, as is.. What would stay the same? What are you most grateful for? What would you change? The only things that really hold us back are those inner feelings – shame, worthiness, fear… If you were to bypass those feelings, knowing that they will always pop up when you attempt to exit your familiar space, then you leave yourself much more space to imagine the route out. When you write your story ..read more

Emotions: A Force Of Nature
Northern Beaches Kinesiology
by Emma Sternberg

Somewhere along the way, humans seemed to form the belief that they can control their emotions..that they can prevent themselves from feeling bad ones and switch positive ones on with the force of a smile.. You can temporarily.. but they never really dissipate.. Trying to control and judge our emotions is one of the most damaging things we can do to ourselves. They are natural, part of nature and we can control them as much as we can control the weather. In clinic, I often describe emotions in relation to the weather.. I find it helps to let go and allow them. Some days you w ..read more

“Put your hand on your heart and take a deep breath. Can you feel it beating? It beats because your heart is full of love!   The screaming, The crying, The anger,                                                                             The hitting, kicking etc! and it can go on and on and on.. For a parent a meltdown can be confronting, challenging and, honestly, quite inconvenient!   But why do they happen and how do you work through them?   A meltdown is the body and brains way of releasing pent up tension. If they are the kind of meltdowns that are lasting minutes (even up to 45 minutes or more) then it’s a sign that your childs nervous system is struggling to cope with the influx of stimulation from the wo ..read more

Sit back for a moment Put your hand on your heart and take a breath Soften, Relax, Center. Take another breath and close your eyes. Count to 10. Separation Anxiety….

As a mother myself, I know the heart tearing and guilt of watching your child struggle with leaving you. I also know the joy that comes from watching them skip merrily to their new destination, turning for a wave and off they go.. I’ve found that more often than not, it’s not the thought of you leaving their side that has them uncomfortable, but it is the thought of “what do I do without you”.. Small children lack the frontal lobe development to help them analyse an environment and make the next best decision for them. This means quite often, it‘s the unknown in their new environment that has ..read more

Parenting – Naming the Emotion
Northern Beaches Kinesiology

A while ago I started to notice a pattern when working with small children. The moment I said.. “they are acting this way because they feel “insert emotion””, the squirming and wriggling would stop and the child would want to hop off the table, walk out the door or go and play. It was if they were saying – “yes, you’re absolutely right, that makes perfect sense, I’m ok now”! It was as if all their uncomfortable feelings just needed to be named. As a child we run on feelings – happiness, joy, curiosity.. But things happen in life and it we don’t always have the comprehension to fully understand ..read more

The sun begins to shine and warm up our bones after winter. I see the smiles and the hope beginning to reappear. Many of us respond much better to growth than inhibition! As spring calls in the blooming of flowers on the ground, the breath of a warmer air and sunsets of pink, purple and orange – we are reminded of the beauty of the world. We are called in on some deeper level to interact and appreciate the world and its wonders. We realise that nature has an intelligence, we remind ourselves to trust in the nature of life. Remember all it takes for a flower to bloom.. the combination of ear ..read more
