We had the pleasure of welcoming GB, +67 Athlete Rebecca McGowan to host a seminar for the club. Rebecca is currently ranked 4th in the world in World Taekwondo rankings in her weight devision, she has qualified GB’s Olympic place for +67kg at Paris 2024 Olympic Games and is a 2023 Grand Prix silver medallist.
The day comprised of two sessions to include our novice and more advanced players. This was a really enjoyable and informative session for all our students and a brilliant opportunity to learn from a top performing GB athlete.

Our Olympic sparring team have kick started the year with a medal haul with a team of seven students, included children from North Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire.
The team attended the Keumgang Open in Lommel, Belgium where the competition had over 1000 entrants taking part on Saturday 20 January. The team ranged in age from six years old to sixteen with players competing in B class and A class level of competition.

We welcomed team GB’s high performance coach, Steve Jennings to Raw Taekwondo to host a seminar. Steve is a long serving coach for GB Olympic Taekwondo as well as a former GB athlete. He has contributed to success of Great Britains Olympic medals. With more than 16 years experience in elite level international sport. He regularly works with top GB athletes including Lauren Williams, Bianca Walkden and Scotland’s very own Rebecca McGowan who has recently qualified GB to the Paris Olympic games in the +67kg division.

A Viking Invasion
We were delighted to welcome our friends from Keflavik Taekwondo in Iceland for a weekend of training and fun. We last visited the club in 2018, which seemed like far too long ago and we decided it was time for a reunion on Scottish soil.
Keflavik Club Coach Helgi brought over a fantastic group of athletes to train with us. It was great to see everyone jump into our usual Friday night session and give it their all. Many students not wanting to leave the mats for a rest!

Raw Taekwondo had the pleasure of receiving Grandmaster Shin, Taekwondo 8th Dan for a two-day spectacular seminar. Korean, Grand Master Shin has over 40 years Taekwondo experience and has a wealth of knowledge and expertise to share. Grand Master Shin has been a full-time Taekwondo player since middle school in Seoul, qualified with a degree from Kyunghee University from the department of Taekwondo and a Korean National team coach.

On Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th November Raw Taekwondo took a small team down to Manchester to compete in the prestigious GB Nationals. This large-scale competition with both A and B class categories attracting 1000 of the best and brightest young talent throughout the UK.
Our A class team consisted of Kieran Dunsmore, Lauren Dunsmore, Mark Smith, Sophia Shields and Adam Millar. This team took part on Saturday and faced some stiff competition, but all performed well in their matches and had lots to take away from the experience. Students at Raw Taekwondo Scotland were lucky to have a fantastic three-hour training session with Team GB’s Taekwondo athletes, Scotland’s own, Rebecca McGowan and the uk first and only ever male world Champion and qualified for Tokyo Olympic 2020 (-68) Bradley Sinden.
Attendees were put through their paces at the full time Taekwondo Centre in Cumbernauld, with sports specific drills for sparring, the Olympic Sports element of the martial art. This was a fantastic opportunity to learn from two of GB’s brightest young stars.
