Many guides on increasing the range of EVs recommend not accelerating too hard and rather more softly to save battery.
My question is primarily technical: Why would this consume more electricity than accelerating slowly? It's not like an ICE than runs more efficient at certain RPMs. I also understand that higher power output will equal higher currents and thus slightly higher resistance in cables and such, but that can't make such a big difference, can it?
Or is this advice just there because people that accelerate hard might drive with less foresight and thus waste a lot of energy breaking ..read more

I have had an EV for 2 years now and the lack of chargers throughout my 70 mile commute is jarring. This is from rural NC to the triangle.
There are zero chargers on my commute. If for some reason I could not charge at home, I may get stranded if I have to run a couple side errands in Raleigh/Durham.
Rolling into my garage with 30mi of range in the winter is frightening.
How do I help increase demand of chargers?
