Chinese EV new-start Nio wants to revolutionize the electric vehicle of the future There is no doubt that competition is beginning to build in the worldwide electric vehicle market and Chinese new-start Nio is looking to change the way we think of EVs. As the company says, it wants to "redesign the EV from the inside out" and forever change the way we drive today. These are obviously ambitious words from a company which is relatively unknown but time will tell as to whether the company can deliver on its aspirations. The fully autonomous level four electric vehicle will most likely come in th ..read more

Putting the past behind Volkswagen It is unclear whether Volkswagen is looking to focus on battery-powered vehicles to put the 2015 diesel emissions scandal behind it or whether indeed the company sees its long-term future in electric cars. Let’s not forget this is a company that was caught up in a serious scandal the financial ramifications of which have yet to be clarified. There were talks of the company struggling to survive although two years later it looks as though Volkswagen is back on its feet again and looking to the future. Uber starts the fightback with more EVs in London Uber, the ride-sharing app, has been in the news of late with some lawsuits building up and an accident involving one of the company’s self-driving vehicles in the USA. Skeptics bemused by Tesla’s share price As Tesla's share price continues to go from strength to strength, many skeptics are perplexed at how the company can keep on going. Despite the fact, a recent statement from the company suggested it had enough capital for at least the next 12 months Tesla recently announced an equity and convertible bond issue to raise just over $1 billion. There is no doubt that Tesla does tend to capitalize on a strong share price, but even the most optimistic of followers surely need to revisit their forecasts? Elon Musk As we have touched on in our earlier articles ..read more

Nissan backtracks with hybrid move When Nissan launched the world’s most popular battery electric powered vehicle back in 2010, the Nissan Leaf was seen as the way forward for the company. In effect, Nissan had decided to jump straight from gasoline vehicles to fully electric powered vehicles, therefore, missing out the hybrid market. However, Nissan has now announced plans to release the Nissan Note e-Power which is a gasoline powered hybrid vehicle. Why the change in strategy? Even though the Nissan Leaf has sold more than 250,000 cars worldwide, sales figures have not hit expectations. The ..read more

"You cannot drill for electricity." Big oil companies are thrilled about the demand for electric products. The fact remains, you cannot drill for electricity...you have to generate it, using fossil fuels. But first, lets take a look at the power grid in the US The energy grid in the US is primarily fueled by nuclear & hydro power plants. Layered above these are natural gas turbines which can be powered up or down "on demand" fairly easily to meet consumer demands which are highest in the PM and in the AM when people are home or getting ready to leave for work. Solar and Wind power is ..read more

Is EV wireless charging closer than you think? The idea of wireless charging has been mentioned in tandem with the electric car market for some time now. We have seen plans to introduce wireless charging systems on highways, but so far it has proved challenging, to say the least.
