Plant Care Succs!
BonusXP – Indie Game Developers

By Clare Valesh   I’ve always been a mediocre and somewhat reluctant gardener. I get really excited about plants, and then they either get eaten by something, or the Texas sun kills them. About a year ago, I was wandering through a Home Depot in Sherman, TX, and I stumbled across a new-to-me plant: succulents.    Did you know that succulents are incredibly picky plants? I didn’t.    “Succulents are SO EASY to take care of!” I thought to myself, filled with hope and naivety. I bought a few and brought them home. They mostly died.    “I must have gotten some si ..read more

By Ashley Rochelle   Hello everyone! I’m Ashley and I’m a Senior Environment Artist at BXP. I joined the team this past March! For my first blog post, I wanted to talk about cosplay! I’ve been cosplaying since 2001 and it’s one of my favorite things to do in my free time. I’m a big fan of anime, manga, and video games. As soon as I found out that cosplay was a thing, I immediately knew I wanted to do it.     In 2013, I started entering cosplay contests at conventions. Many cosplay contests have team events, and I learned that I enjoy competing and performing alongside my frien ..read more

Derby Day

By Kaitlyn Ehlers   For those of you who don’t know, this past weekend was the Kentucky Derby. Now, my family isn’t super into watching the races, but we usually take 10 minutes out of our day to watch it and bet a dollar against each other. However, it’s quarantine time, so why not make a big deal out of Derby Day?   I love to cook, and I enjoy challenging myself in the kitchen. So I decided to try my hand at making beef wellington. Of course, for this dish I could use no recipe other than Gordon Ramsay’s beef wellington from Hell’s Kitchen. I’ve recently been binging the show and t ..read more

By Nate Stefan   My name is Nate and I am a Concept Artist at BXP.   I wanted to share some of my favorite art books that helped and inspired me over the years. I never really set out to have a large collection but over the years it has definitely grown.     Rakugaking: Terada Katsuya  ISBN-10: 4757208855   This is a 1000 page tome from a Japanese Illustrators sketchbook. It is all over the place with some adult themes in there so not a book for your kids. His designs and imagination are a constant source of amazement and just how prolific he is.   &nb ..read more

I Used to Be Afraid of Heights

By Robert Zieba    My ideal vacation is camping and hiking deep in the woods. Fortunately, this is an activity that meshes well with social distancing measures and I recently went camping near the Flat Tops Wilderness in Colorado.   I first stopped near the Great Sands Dunes, staying at the Zapata Falls campground. A short hike takes you to the creek that leads to the falls. The only way to reach the falls is to walk up this creek. Luckily, it’s only ankle deep this time of year but the water is close to freezing and your feet start to go numb as soon as you step in.   &nb ..read more

By Adam Schimpf   My name’s Adam and I’m an animator at Bonus XP.   I thought I’d talk a little bit about what led me to be an animator. There are probably literally hundreds of individual influences throughout my childhood. Disney films.  Saturday morning cartoons.  The stop motion in the Star Wars and Ray Harryhausen films.  Playing in the backyard with action figures.   But as I look back there’s maybe one thing that really cemented my love for animation more than anything else.   An arcade game from 1983 called ‘Dragon’s Lair’.       ..read more

By Austin Chalk   Hey everyone! Well I finally went and did it. For several years now, I’d always gone back and forth on splurging for an iPad for the sole purpose of having a portable way of drawing digitally. As much as I love a good Cintiq as a daily driver, there was something I started really missing about just doodling on the couch. I ended up going with the tried and true iPad/Procreate combo, and I’m absolutely loving it!   Coincidentally, I’ve also been writing an idea for a story in my spare time. Given my background, I had originally intended it to be for a game, wi ..read more

by Andy Cotnam     So, my wife came home with a tiny plastic cup full of baby Cecropia Caterpillars.   A month later, we have a brood of the biggest, fattest, coolest bugs ever. Check ’em out.      Our largest (Mongo) is around 3 inches long now, but they have been known to grow to be over 4.5 inches long before cocooning.                 Here’s ‘Mongo’, having just completed it’s latest molt.                 Oh, and they poop a lot.     The post OMGCATERPILLARS ..read more

Always On Track

By Eliot Peng   So the last few months have been…interesting. I’ve always been a homebody, so my daily life hasn’t changed all that much, but I have found myself ordering fast food and take-out a lot more often than I normally would otherwise (like once a day now, vs. maybe a few times a week at most in the past). People joke about the “quarantine 15”, and it’s certainly understandable how that can happen, from some combination of stress, increased sedentary behaviour…or hey, maybe extra alcohol consumption! I haven’t been too concerned about my own weight, because I track my daily calori ..read more
