I am transferring college and intend to undergo exit counseling. I do wonder, though. I know I'll be on grace period after completing exit counseling, but if I enroll full-time this fall, would I get the full six months grace period back? submitted by /u/ileumrevali [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Restarted my consolidation application and now they are unable to retrieve my financial info

I started an application in studentaid.gov to consolidate to a Direct Loan and chose the SAVE plan, the computer found my tax info and calculated my payment and I almost finished the application. I wanted to review it and I clicked back through the application and it made me go through all the pages again, but this time it said it couldn’t retrieve my financial information so I’d have to enter it manually and upload tax documents. Ugh. I tried multiple times restarting the application but same result. Has this happened to anyone? Should I wait and try again tomorrow, maybe it’s a glitch? I wi ..read more

If I am consolidating my loans by April 30th, do I need to just have the application submitted by April 30th, or does it need to be processed by then? Yes, I realize this is probably a dumb question. submitted by /u/thr33beggars [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I have had two federal loans, currently being serviced by Navient and by Nelnet, that I originally took out in 2011. Only went into deferment once, in my early 20s (I am 36 now), and have paid consistently for at least 10 years. Currently both total out to about 18,850 or so (see the attached screenshot). Both are direct loans, that were also both IDR. I JUST now, after an entire day researching and trying to understand these terms and things with my smooth brain, finished the loan consolidation process (something I should def have done right? To qualify for loan forgiveness right?). I chos ..read more

Private school loan for $80k paid off

Long time lurker of this sub and very grateful for the threads I’ve stumbled upon and advice posted here. I goofed up by taking a private loan through school (they really got me with the 0% origination fee ? as my idiot self thought that would be huge in the long run…). I’ve thrown every non-living wage dollar at it, including tapping into my savings. I would not have been able to do it without being able to pick up more shifts and living on a tight budget with family. Just want to encourage everyone else to keep going! I still have massive federal loans ? but one big headache gone. For the r ..read more

Hello all, former graduate of Bloomtech when it used to be called Lambda School. Finished in July 2021. Recently found out about the legal action they came across and found out that students that signed up with an ISA have a chance at being absolved of their payments to Bloomtech under certain conditions. https://www.consumerfinance.gov/enforcement/actions/bloomtech-inc-and-austen-allred/ I was under the impression that I signed up for Lambda with an ISA, because there was no way I was signing up for this bootcamp with anything else (had no money), but after looking at my old completed docume ..read more

4 days left to 4/30. I’m scrambling

I’m late to the game and just found out about consolidating my FFELP loan. Before I get into this. Many thanks to every ones feedback in other posts. Started paying 12/7/05- forbearance on and off since then- Fresh out of school no money, layoffs through my career, life happens situations. All other loans paid off but this last one won’t go away. $48k left on my under grad. Knowing that I have to consolidate by 4/30, does the consolidation type matter? IDR or Repay Based on a Set Repayment Period? What path leads me to forgiveness since I’m around 18.5 months All of this is confusing. No idea ..read more

I screwed up real bad

I'm so mad at myself. Had 2 Parent Plus loans for 10k and 7k each which had originated from from a single 10k loan taken out in 2010.(Changed hands through many servicers) I mistakenly consolidated both to one provider in a haze of confusion after my dog passed. Now I'm left with a consolidated ICR loan and no way to double consolidate and get into SAVE. If I hadn't screwed up, my loans would have been forgiven since the original balance was under 12k and SAVE had a forgiveness provision. Posting this as a PSA. Don't be me. submitted by /u/gilgamesh-uruk [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Accruing interest is over double my monthly payment, which is based on my income.

Owe over $200K principal with $35/day interest accruing for a doctorate degree in a slowly dying healthcare profession. My loan payments are income based at $500/mo and don’t even cover half of the accrued interest amount each month. I can’t afford to pay more, but even if I could, it wouldn’t really matter in the grand scheme of paying it off. I can’t afford to buy a house where I live and barely have any savings for emergencies or retirement. ? submitted by /u/recycle37216 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
