Gave our server a better tip than she deserved...

Went out to eat tonight. Had a server who was, shall we say, less than enthusiastic about her job. I was charismatic, even got her to smile. I could tell that either, because of the political climate of division, that she didn't want to serve us, or that she hated her job. I believe it was a combination of the two. Either way, she did her job at the bare minimum. But, she dissed me. I called her over and got my second beer, I was in the middle of asking her for boxes, and she completely ignored me and walked away. Either way, I used to be a server, so I tip generously. Even though this server ..read more

Which should I choose?

Hi guys! I recently got accepted to both burger king and Ihop but I'm not sure which to choose. For starters, I'm 17 and this is my first job. Burger king pays $9.50 an hour and is part-time. I love the people there, very friendly, but I don't care for the fast food business or the tasks at hand. I'm willing to work hard and do even the things I don't like for money though. Ihop on the other hand only pays $2.13 an hour because the rest is made up in tips. I'd be a server and work close to full time, 4-5 days a week and I'd take the morning shifts. The staff wasn't nearly as nice or welcoming ..read more

Hey all! I’ve worked in customer service for around 6 years but recently got back into serving at an establishment last December. It’s a bowling alley/arcade/sports bar combination that’s geared more towards families, but also does corporate events, parties, that sort of thing. During peak times of the year, the money is good but when things are slow they’re SLOW slow. I’m talking like we maybe walk away with $50 for a full 6-8 hour shift, in addition to wages. It’s a chill job all things considered, but the compensation is just not livable. The health insurance starts at around $400 a month ..read more

New server threw out my full shift tips in the trash, how should I proceed?

I’m a cocktail waitress at a casino so pretty much everything runs in cash and chips, a new girl just started and it’s her first day on the floor by herself and when she went to leave, someone said she could throw away some of the trash and she didn’t even throw away all of the trash. She just threw away a couple cups including a cup full of my whole day’s tips. It’s common culture between us girls that we all put our chips and chips that don’t fit into our cups on our trays into a little coffee cup with our name labeled on it and everyone does it so for her to mistakenly throw a cup that had ..read more

Servers cleaning duties

Curious… at pubs/sports bars, etc. Who should be the one that has to clean up puke in the bathrooms? Last night a girl puked in our bathroom sink, and my bartender scolded me when I refused to clean it up. I know my rights, and right to refuse is #1. I am there to serve food, and to give a good experience; I am not there to clean disgusting messes. submitted by /u/cheesebrains99 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Quitting a job last minute same day as a shift?

Hey y’all so I currently have 4 jobs. One is being a server at a Dennys. I need to quit this job as I’ve been over working lately with the 4jobs & they pay the least. The thing is is that I had been thinking of giving a two weeks notice so I could potentially work for them again if needed but they scheduled me for a shift on an important family wedding celebration & I’m thinking of just letting them know today I won’t be coming in and I quit. I would also be fine coming in for other future shifts just not this one. Wanted to know y’all’s thoughts. For some reason it’s hard for me to m ..read more

So I’m in a tough situation right now , my manager is currently sleeping with one of our bartenders and has bragged in the past about sleeping around with his employees , has also made a number or misogynistic and crude comments towards me “jokingly” and it’s to the point where If I say anything back he’s now threatening my employment . I don’t know what to do , I don’t feel like I can go to upper management because word on the street is that some of them are doing the same thing . It’s because a very toxic work environment and I don’t really feel safe anymore . I want to send an email to the ..read more

Tipping and Credit Card Service Charges

I'm having a dilemma about tipping on credit cards and the processing fees. As you likely know, each state has different rules on how much an employer can withhold from tips paid on credit cards. Here are some details: Is It Legal for Employers to Deduct Credit Card Processing Fees from Tips? I live in NYC, where employers will withhold credit card processing fees from the wait staff. But I don't want to short the waiter. So, do I: Tip 20% in cash only? Tip 20% on card and let the credit company steal the cut. Tip 20% + 3% processing fee. on a $100 bill, $20.70, so the waiter get their full ..read more
