Hello! I've wanted to join a softball team since my college days and have always been too late to the game (pun not intended). Hoping this year is my year! This post first and foremost is in regards to seeking out some like-minded folks who want to get together to play ball! If you're looking to start a team, or need someone on your team, I'm your guy! If this post reaches just a select few, and you're in Williamsburg (preferably near McCarren), I'd be down just to do Batting Practice. What I mean by that is we can meet up to toss balls to one another and do fielding, etc. I have enough equip ..read more

Advice for a new coach?

I signed my daughter up for 7-8 year old softball, she has never played before but she seems to be a natural. I signed up to be the head coach because no one else had, and I have no idea what I should be doing. It is a group of 14 girls and there is no assistant coach. I want to make sure they get the most out of their time, and that they have fun. Any resources or advice you can recommend for a beginner coaching? Our first practice is next week. Thank you! submitted by /u/Particular-Deer-4688 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Practice drills for 8U

My league is putting more emphasis on practice versus games this season. As a result, my team will have more practices than games. I have been coaching for four years but would like some suggestions on fun drills I can use to keep the girls interested through our practices. I use a lot of the Mojo drills but would like to hear about others that coaches are using. Any fun things you do at the end of practice? I do not want the girls to get bored and dread coming to practice. Thanks. submitted by /u/robbjuteau [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Softball iQ

Hi, I’m a dad helping my daughter transition from little league to club softball. We had our first tournament last weekend and I noticed that we are very deficient in softball iQ. Which I know will come with experience, however how can this experience be circumvented or addressed before having to experience it. I’m thinking of composing a quiz of some sorts that will give scenarios and test for the sake of learning rules or knowing what to do without thinking. Is this possible. I’m spitballing here but I think it’s totally doable. Open to discuss. submitted by /u/Infilade [visit reddit] [com ..read more

I am searching little league rules but cannot locate any info on this topic. A batter is walked, catcher throws to pitcher who is in the circle, runner continues to second without stopping. Any sections on this topic? submitted by /u/Argent781 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Looking for some advice. My daughter is a freshman in highschool. She originally made only the JV team before the season started. The coach approached her telling her she had been working hard & doing great & decided to give her a spot on the varsity team as well. My daughter isn’t a stud player but shows up & works hard. She has a decent at bat. Plays 2nd base well & can play many other positions. She is one of the faster ones on the team. She has also played travel softball for 4 years. Due to weather and rain we have only had one true JV game. She played well in the only JV ..read more

Natural right-hander who throws lefty?

Hi, my daughter (14) made varsity as a freshman this year. Something unique about her is that she is a lefty in softball only because she used her friend’s lefty glove when she first started playing. She remembers throwing lefty not being natural at first, but she wanted to be just like her and ended up sticking with it as time went on. I guess it’s worked out so far; she primarily pitches on varsity. She throws and bats left-handed, but does everything else in life right-handed. I know there are many natural right-handers that bat lefty, and some natural left-handers that throw righty. Howev ..read more

I’m absolutely devastated. My youngest (8) told me tonight she doesn’t want to play softball. I’ve been her coach since tball and now we signed her and her older sister up (10) for travel ball to get them better competition than the local rec league offers. But now she doesn’t even want to play because it’s “boring”. We have only had practices so far and it has been a long couple of months to get here, but our first DH is in just a couple of weeks, so hopefully some games will help. I’m hoping it is temporary. I know at 8, things can be boring, but dang it if doesn’t sting. I don’t know what ..read more
