When did you get skin removal?

I spoke with my dr today and asked her for advice. She says the bare minimum is 1 year but suggests 18-24 months. Ultimately it’s up to the plastic surgeon but she gave reasons to wait. I’m just wondering in general when did you have removal, both early and later, and do you wish you did anything different? I am only 6 months down but 70% to my goal. I’m 5’8” female so a bit taller so the loose skin is mainly the front of my stomach/apron, thighs, and the biggest insecurity of mine is my arms. I can see the skinny arms behind the skin now. I basically have my grandma’s bingo wings and as a 29 ..read more

Hospital VS Surgery Center

I’m sorry if this has been asked before, I couldn’t find much on it. But I am debating between getting my surgery at a surgery center or requesting it be done in a hospital. My doctor said it can be a same day surgery and it’s better for patients to heal at home. I am a low risk 29 year old with no health issues besides my weight. How common is going to a surgery center? My only hesitation is the hospital stay will cost about double, but I also do not want to cheap out with my health. That being said, if it’s the norm then I’d consider trusting the surgery center will be fine. submitted by ..read more

New to this whole process, I have done nothing so far to get this journey started. I’m 24 F 270 Lbs. I have an appointment with my obgyn next week and was wondering if I could ask her to give me a referral? I also have an appointment with my pcp next week but it’s a new patient visit so I’m scared to ask the new doc. Ty in advance submitted by /u/Amazing_Psychology97 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Slow weight loss since VSG

I had VSG almost exactly 7 months ago. I also have lymphoedema and lipoedema in my lower body. My weight loss has been slow (starting 382lb, 82.4lbs down including my pre-op diet). I had a call with my dietician yesterday who has said I am doing everything right and unfortunately there is no crystal ball and because of my legs it was also going to change the "average" outcome i was willing to see. Since 3 months post-op I have averaged only 1.2lbs a week, and she has said I can expect to see less than 0.5lbs a week based on that. I desperately want to lose another 18.5lbs but she didn't seem ..read more

I am 2 years post op. My starting weight was 329… I’m currently 163. I’ve been steady at this weight for about a year and seeing as I’m 5’8”, I’m very happy with the results and I work hard to keep everything where it’s at. Prior to my surgery, I had a discussion with my husband about how my body would change (I worried about extra skin, hormone changes, possible hair issues, etc.)… he fully supported everything. Almost a year ago exact, I told him I wanted a divorce. It’s not because I don’t love him, it seems though that this surgery has affected him, almost more than myself. He is very ins ..read more

WLS veteran-developed eating disorder

I’m (35F) several years post op and have stopped losing weight. I’m at a “healthy” BMI and a relatively low weight, but I would like to lose another 15lbs. Over the past year, I’ve taken to skipping meals to see movement on the scale. When I eat like I’m supposed to, the scale goes up… I’ve been told I don’t need to lose any more, but I WANT to. I want to get to the number I have in my head (which is still in the healthy BMI range). I’ve realized that I have developed a full on eating disorder. Before WLS I was a binge eater. But now, I will either skip meals (for 2-3 days) to keep my caloric ..read more
