When I was a teenager in middle school, I started a bucket list of crazy things I wanted to do before I pass. Hike the John Muir Trail, ride my bike across the country, do an Ironman… With the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down a lot of normalcy in life, which for me is normally defined by set bike races around California, the US, and a handful around the globe, all of a sudden, my regular schedule wasn’t there anymore. One week ago on the 12th, I jogged two laps of a hilly grass track we had mowed into our property. I recorded it on Strava and the distance was exactly one mile. My immediate thou ..read more

With three stages of the 41st Vuelta Independencia Nacional in the books we were excited to see what the second half of the trip had in store for us. The typical morning routine would something along the lines of: waking up and heading straight the breakfast (or see if there was any breakfast that day), forcing down as much rice, spaghetti, sandwiches or eggs as you could, and then getting kitted up quickly so we could follow a local team to the start. Stage Four was a little different, it was our first transfer to the start in Villa Altagracia. The course was a 138 k, 13 lap circuit about an ..read more

Dominican Republic Days 1-4 By Bradley Wiggs When you pack your bag for a multi-week international bike race, there are lots of things you have to remember. A bike may be the most important thing, but it doesn’t work well without pedals. Guest rider Cameron Hawk realized he didn’t have his pedals after reaching SFO, but after a bit of a panic, a call to the local bike shop, and a message to an Uber driver, a pair of Dura-Ace pedals showed up at the airport in time for him to make his flight. Blake Anton, our team captain, a veteran bike racer, and the organizer of most of our international tr ..read more

This post was written by one of our latest additions to the team, Bradley Wiggs. Enjoy! – Phil With an entire season of racing quickly approaching, the Voler Factory team camp was the first chance for me to meet my teammates for the coming year. We arrived at the Alpine Lodge on Mt. Tamalpais on a beautiful Saturday morning and began getting ready to ride. As a new face on the squad, I was immediately struck by how well the group meshed. We spent a quality amount of time laughing while kitting up in our fresh Voler threads. After a quick application of Zealios sunscreen, we donned our Rudy Pro ..read more

By Colin Patterson Locked and loaded after a successful Rum Punch Picnic we were ready for the final stage of Tour of Tobago. Preparing ourselves for 75 miles with 10k of climbing we moseyed ourselves to the start in Scarborough for the earliest start yet. In traditional Caribbean fashion we started right on (island) time. The goals for the day included getting as many of our climbers into the front group as possible, snag as many KOM points for Brad, and to survive to the finish. As we quickly found out on the first KOM we were in for a day of hard climbing and mind boggling steep descents ..read more

After a great week of racing in Tobago and a brutal final stage, we were all ready for a few easy days before getting back to a bit of racing. Monday’s recovery schedule included some snorkeling at a coral reef right in front of our apartments, and was a perfect way to close out our time on the island. We packed out of the nice race provided housing and headed out to the ferry, taking a boat ride across to the larger island of Trinidad. With a much larger population, and industrial economy, Trinidad was a big change of pace from the beach resort life we had on Tobago. After enjoying some of t ..read more

Tour of Tobago, Stages 2-4

After a hot and rowdy first day of racing, the second day continued in similar fashion. With an aggressively steep climb and a technical descent in the middle of each of the 5 laps, the field grew continuously smaller as the race progressed. A sudden downpour left the riders wet and the course slick, but the riders finished safely with no crashes and only a couple of mechanicals. More memorable than the results of Stage 2 were the post-race images of the team hanging out on the Sea Boss, the sturdiest of vessels, complete with some snorkeling at Bucco Reef and a soak in the famous Nylon Pool ..read more

The end of the season in America signals the start of of racing in Latin America and the Caribbean. With our bike cases and bags packed, we embarked on the journey to the South American islands of Trinidad and Tobago. After a rough day or two of travel, we settled into some awesome beach front apartments on the island of Tobago. Stage one was a 90km circuit race with a punchy climb all ten laps, some ripping cross winds as we raced along the lowland roads just feet from the ocean, and some absolutely brutal heat and humidity.  We lined up with a full team of nine riders – 6 from the USA and ..read more
