2 cameras 5 riders over 2 days of pumping waves. This location is super fickle and this was the biggest and heaviest we have ever surfed it. The whole crew (Aidan Salmon, Grant Woodhouse, Fabian Rodriguez, Hugo Pinheiro and Ramon) charged from first light until the tide got too low and the place started closing out. We were so blessed to have just us in the water the whole time. No crowds just good times with an awesome crew of bodyboarders. Padang Padang is the jewel in the crown of the Bali surfing community. To get optimum conditions you need dry season trade winds and a solid ground swell from the west or south west. These winds occur mostly from April – October. The heart of the wet season December and January are notoriously the worst time of year for waves in Bali Indonesia. The wind comes out of the west, it rains a lot and there is not enough swell for the east coast to break (consistently anyway). One of our favourite secret spots came to life last week! The boys were treated to a selection of wedges with the occasional barrel providing the perfect scene for us to do maneuvers and get some fun size barrels. This particular surf spot is normally blown out by the wind so we were super lucky to get it clean this time of year. Bali is filled with similar secret spots that have very narrow windows of opportunity to score optimum wave conditions. So it pays not only to know where to look but also when to look! 2020 was a challenging year for many people. One of the few positives was Indonesia had some very quiet line ups. Bali Bodyboarding owner and operator Aidan Salmon made the most of the situation and enjoyed some amazing waves despite the financial hardship resulting from global travel restrictions.
