Which RPG has the best artifacts?

A big part of RPGs is loot and equipment and I think everyone loves to find some special item during his quests, but not every game treats this matter in the same way. I personally like the approach that Elder Scrolls games has to artifacts: there's often almost an aura of greatness and mystery around the most powerful weapons and armors, they are related to heroes, gods and old legends and especially in Daggerfall and Morrowind they can be hard to find in the first gameplays but also incredibly powerful. The fact is that apart from Elder Scrolls game I struggled to find games that put that m ..read more

I wish CRPGs had flashier combat

I wish CRPGs had flashier combat rather than simpler and grounded stuff. Maybe it's because I grew up on shonen bullshit (Dragon Ball Z & GT) but it just feels like a missed opportunity to me to NOT have big epic super powers and such. Especially when it's cousin, the JRPG, does so at times. Especially in a turn based environment, even though you can't really do the most choreographed combat, due to not really exchanging blows, but you could especially have extremely flashy over the top attacks, at least at higher levels. BG3 kinda gets there bc it heavily flavors some of the abilities fr ..read more

RPG’s on PS Plus w/ character building & NO turn based combat

Skyrim is my all time favorite game and I’ve tried playing other RPGs and it never hits. I think it’s because of the way you can build your character. I can’t stand turn based combat, and I’d prefer a game that was made within the last few years. I know there are plenty from older generations but I want to get the most out of my PS5. Please help ??? submitted by /u/Crafty_Cat9405 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Recently finished Sea of Stars. Almost done with DQ11, what should I play next? Xbox player here. These are on my wishlist. Romancing SaGa 3: Interested in the non-linear storyline and different mechanics. Never got to play SaGa games growing up as they weren’t ported to US. Chained Echoes: Heard good things about this indie game. Octopath Traveler: Heard good and bad things about this game. The second one isn’t on Xbox yet, but heard better things about it. FFXII Remaster: Never finished the PS2 version back in the day. I’ve beaten IV, VI, VII, IX, and X. Ara Fell: No idea what to expect but ..read more

What game do you think "codified" the WsRPG genre?

Often when discussing the split between Japanese-style and Western-style roleplaying games, the focus is on Dragon Quest III, framed as "breaking away" from the more D&D-inspired RPGs that preceded it to more firmly form what would eventually become a totally distinct genre. But, surely, if there was a schism in the RPG genre of the late 1980s, surely there's a Western-style RPG we can point at which could, potentially, be framed as a codifier of that genre. And, if so, which game would you point to, and why? ..... Personally, I've been trying to go back and play a lot of those older game ..read more

Strongest RPG Character of all time?

THIS IS NOT LORE BASED. I am talking just raw power within the game itself. Not talking about lore or crossing over video games. I mean within that specific game, who is someone who just absolutely wrecked the game with no weird set-up or grinding required. My top pick is Peter from Shining Force 2. He absolutely wrecks the game the moment you get him in your party. submitted by /u/Smashbrohammer [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
