Hi guys, So I am a 22F with a history of migraine with aura and severe PCOS. I had three migraines with aura when I was 15-16 years old. I went on birth control when I turned 18 because I had severe acne. I never had another one until I was 18 and 4 months into birth control. While I was on birth control, my acne disappeared and my mood was extremely stable. I stopped the birth control and my acne and other PCOS symptoms came back with a vengeance. When I stopped the pill, my migraines with aura also stopped. I haven't had a migraine with aura since then. Over the course of the next 4 years ..read more

Hello. I'm 25. Just wanted to ask how you found purpose and confidence after having stroke. Before my stroke, I was studying for my second degree and working. I got time off from work and I had stop my studies because I prioritized my recovery. How do I get the confidence to go back to work? I can walk unassisted but I still look like I'm limping and my arm sometimes lift up when walking. I don't use a cane anymore, but I was thinking of using one to avoid any accident. I seldom fall or trip but I do when I am not mindful. When I go out, people would stare at me out of pity. I get anxious and ..read more

Is it normal to have to fight the insurance company?

My daughter-in-law had a stroke February 24 and was in the neuro ICU for 5 1/2 weeks. She was admitted to the ICU after emergency surgery. My son just got a letter from United Healthcare saying she was admitted for “a respiratory issue” and they authorized ONE night in the hospital. We’ve been told we have to appeal and someone from her rehab center is meeting with us to explain the appeal process. Is this typical? What else do we need to know about dealing with UH? submitted by /u/jmac94wp [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Ive had concerns about DVTs for a few months, that have been dismissed by my doctors, and two days ago had a vision disturbance episode and a bit of loss off of balance. Only 15 seconds, but evening prior to that I developed a headache and pain in a few spots in head, I never get headache. So I went to the ER, and it was a nightmare. They were slammed and I got gaslight and dismissed. They asked me who the president was, gave me a 30 second physical exam, and said no stroke. No imaging done. Today, the pain continues in head, and I just had some sudden hearing loss in one ear for a while that ..read more

Dad had a stroke for the first time

My dad (late 50’s) had a stroke for the first time. He was having a headache and suddenly could not walk so we rushed him to the hospital. It's been three days and he started to make good progress. He is now can move his body, hands, and feet even though still weak. But one concern though, he seemed almost amnesia. He could not remember 80% of the people he used to know. The memories he remembers are only the bad and sad parts of when he was little and that has made him so emotional about it. He also acts like a child, he says something that is not like him. His behavior changed and that has ..read more

Sodium tablets after stroke

My brother (77) had a massive stroke six months ago. He's in a long term facility because his left side is completely paralyzed and he requires 24 hour care. He was put on sodium tablets and had been on them until the past week when he has been refusing to take them. I've read that low sodium is common with stroke patients, having to do with damage in the area of the pituitary. Is this low sodium condition permanent? Is there any danger in his not taking the sodium tablets? submitted by /u/toadog [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
