Creating a toxin free home is incredibly trendy right now. It can also feel incredibly overwhelming. And it is worth so much more than just keeping up with the trends. Trends come and go, but the health benefits you and your family can enjoy when you cut out unnecessary toxins and chemicals can literally last you a lifetime. Now before I go any farther, I need you to know that I am not a die-hard crunchy mom. There are currently marshmallows and candy canes in my pantry. Bleach and Shout are gracing my laundry room shelves. I am not a super radical person and I do things best in s ..read more

An Unexpected Key to a Peaceful Heart (#vibrantprayerlifeseries)

Worship is a key component of prayer. And as we dig deeper into what creates a vibrant prayer life, this is one part of prayer we cannot afford to leave out. The Lord’s prayer begins with worship. “Our Father in Heaven, may Your name be kept holy” (Matthew 6:9 NLT). We know that God’s throne is always surrounded with worshipers saying “holy, holy, holy.” (Isaiah 6:3 & Revelations 4:8) Worship is a central theme in the Bible and is often included in any communication with God. Just read any three Psalms, and you’ll probably find worship in at least one, if not all of them. Worship is ..read more

What if I don't like my prayer life? #vibrantprayerlifeseries

I have always fought against the idea of making prayer into a habit. I've reasoned that, if prayer is such a tedious task, than there must be something wrong in my relationship with Christ. And yet, by my very reasoning, I have made prayer a task, rather than a relationship.  I know I'm not alone in this reasoning. I took several polls, both in my private Facebook group and on Instagram, and the overwhelming amount of voters admitted to not being happy with their prayer life. In fact, in the Facebook group, 40 Christian moms said they wished they had a better prayer life and 0 said they w ..read more

What God Says to the Mom Who Doesn't Think She Can Change (#wesayHesays series)

You blow your temper again and this time you're ready to give up. You can't change. You've read every self-help book and blog you can find, but your temper cannot be changed. The tears of despair roll down your cheeks, because this is not the kind of mom you want your kids to remember. You feel the hope draining out of your body and, just like many other moms in your shoes, you begin to tell yourself lies. We say: "I will always be an angry Mom." "I will never be able to stop yelling at my kids." "If only I could make myself stop overeating, I would feel good about myself." "I've a ..read more

What God Says to the Mom Who Doesn't Feel Gifted (#wesayHesays series)

Everyone around me is so...gifted. It seems like everyone can paint watercolors, has great photography skills, sounds like Mozart on the piano, all while doing crafts with their kids and making their house look like all the pins from Pinterest. It's enough to make any Mom feel like God must have passed her over in the gift department. I mean, most days I'm happy when I get my 2 loads of laundry washed, dried and folded, keep the dishes washed up and can spend some time reading or being outside with the kids. (Which, by the way, is exactly enough for one day.) But some days I let disconten ..read more

Mom guilt is a real thing y'all. Probably every Mom has suffered from it for at least a minute or two. A lot of us struggle with it a lot more than that and it often goes deeper than guilt. We have a deep fear of failure in the whole motherhood thing. With Pinterest perfect Moms and #momsofig all around us, at all times, it's hard to escape this fear of failing. We're all pretty sure that everybody else has it together better than we do and we're just hot mess express, failing our kids, our family, our friends, ourselves, and God. And we say a lot of things to and about ourselves that are ..read more

What God says to the Exhausted Mom (#wesayHesays series)

There are so many lies that we as moms buy into and repeat to ourselves. They often sound legit, and maybe even humble or holy! But these lies are holding us back from living the lives that Jesus has called us to, and it's time to shine the spotlight on them, repent of them and start walking in the truth! I'm excited to introduce the #wesayHesays series, in which we will examine many things we say to or about ourselves and then face them with the truth from God's Word. So, let's get started on the path to freedom! We say: "I am too exhausted to be a good mom." "Parenting wears me out ..read more

Why "I'll adopt your baby!" is never enough

Every so often, a certain status seems to trend on facebook, particularly from the accounts of pro-life Christians. "If you're pregnant and don't want your baby, I'll adopt it," many of us proclaim, hoping that, by some miracle, a pregnant woman somewhere will stork-drop her baby in our arms. If you have ever shared this, I'm not writing this to make you feel like an awful person, because I'm sure you're not and I completely understand your heart behind this status. But I do want to gently challenge you on this mindset, so I'm going to pull this phrase apart and look at it from a differe ..read more

It had been a rough morning. My emotions were raging and the kids found many things were not to their liking as we progressed through the day. Tempers flared and words were tight, clipped and harsh. Something needed to give. I picked up my two-year-old and sat down on my piano bench, cuddling her on my lap as I played Jesus Loves Me. Her favorite song. Pretty soon she was lisping the words along with piano keys. My oldest came down the steps, singing her heart out. Pretty soon my middle child joined her, their voices blending in beautiful, discordant notes. "Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bib ..read more

What If Praying Isn't Enough?

Abortion - it is a word that makes us shudder with revulsion.   The infamous Planned Parenthood videos have revealed the atrocities of the abortion industry to be even worse than we realized, and our hearts are filled with deep sadness. The constant push for later-term abortions seems to never stop. Making it a huge temptation to just scroll past. To not get involved and pretend it didn't happen. We pacify ourselves by praying that God will end this living horror movie going on behind the scenes, in the places we never visit. And we wait for abortion to be voted out. And in all of our ..read more
