It was only two months ago when Cristobal Del Solar shot a 57 on the Korn Ferry Tour. Now, Frankie Capan III has joined the exclusive club of players to shoot sub-60 rounds in a professional tournament. It is just the second time a player has recorded a 58 in competition on the Korn Ferry Tour. The 24-year-old from Minnesota took 29 shots on each nine at the Texas Rangers Golf Club in the Veritex Bank Championship. Capan III opened with four birdies in his first five holes and he added an eagle at the par-5 9th hole to turn in six-under-par. He continued to make seven consecutive birdies and f ..read more

13 years ago, Tommy Fleetwood won for the first time on the Challenge Tour at the Kazakhstan Open. The rest, as they say is history, but the Englishman is revisiting this part of his career this week not as a player, but as a caddie. Fleetwood is looping for his stepson Oscar Craig at the UAE Challenge at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi, and the 17-year-old amateur got off to quite the start. With the help of the seven-time DP World Tour winner and European Ryder Cup hero on his bag, Craig carded three birdies and no bogeys for an impressive 69 in round one. This left him four shots behi ..read more

National Club Golfer Magazine
by Matt Chivers

When I was revising for my GCSE exams, I temporarily gave up playing club medals and stablefords. However, my studies might have been parked if I was about to make my PGA Tour debut which is the exact situation Kris Kim finds himself in. Distractions come easy enough during your school years, but this 16-year-old amateur sensation is raring to go ahead of next week’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch. “I’m so excited to tee it up in Texas. It’s what you work towards all the time and it’s an amazing opportunity,” he said a matter of weeks before his GCSE exams begin. “I can’t wait to play ..read more

Politics Aside… Trump International, Scotland is a Must Visit
National Club Golfer Magazine
by Matt Coles
11h ago
The name may put some people off, but if you are a keen golfer then a trip to Trump International Golf Links, Scotland is an absolute must. To say that this is the baby of the Trump golfing portfolio would be apt, as it is the only property in said portfolio that has been built from the ground up. The rest of the Trump golfing world including the likes of Trump Turnberry, Trump Ireland and Trump National Doral have all been purchased. 2006 saw the Trump family purchase a huge plot of land on the Aberdeenshire coast, and within six years, a golfing paradise had been constructed. ‘That was the tip of the iceberg’: The 100,000 errors found as England moved to WHS
National Club Golfer Magazine
by Steve Carroll
13h ago
England Golf discovered almost 100,000 discrepancies when transferring records over to the World Handicap System in 2020, chief executive Jeremy Tomlinson has revealed. Speaking on The NCG Golf Podcast, he said while he had “sympathies” for people who had enjoyed the old CONGU UHS method, the move to a unified and unform way of assessing the ability of players was “long overdue”. Asked what he thought of WHS, which continues to be criticised by a vocal section of players some three and a half years after it was launched in Great Britain & Ireland, Tomlinson told the podcast: “The whole int ..read more

Scottie Scheffler was on an absolute tear in 2024, winning four times on the PGA Tour: the Arnold Palmer, The Players, The Masters, and the RBC Heritage. We all know how good he is off the tee and with his irons, but I believe his short game is massively underrated, so in this video, I break down his low-chip shot technique to see what we can learn. LIV Golf chief Greg Norman ‘open-minded’ about switch to 72 holes
National Club Golfer Magazine
by Steve Carroll

LIV Golf chief executive Greg Norman has revealed the organisation is “very open-minded” about changing the league’s format to 72 holes. But he warned there would be an “economic impact about putting television on” for four rounds. Speaking with Jon Rahm ahead of the Saudi-backed tour’s event in Adelaide this week, Norman said the prospect of adding an extra round to the three-day shotgun-start tournaments was “a great conversation to have” and one that would continue going forward. Rahm had told the BBC he would like to see the tour move from 54 to 72-holes, and added in Australia that such a ..read more

Golf club membership in England continues to rise
National Club Golfer Magazine
by Steve Carroll
2d ago
Golf club membership in England remains on the increase – despite fears cost-of-living might burst the post-pandemic participation boom. Speaking on the latest episode of The NCG Golf Podcast, Jeremy Tomlinson, England Golf chief executive, said membership numbers in 2023 stood at 722,000. That’s an increase of around 2,000 players on 2022 and, while the increase was described by the governing body’s key figure as “fairly modest”, it shows the appetite for belonging to a golf club has not diminished. Following a decade and a half of stagnating statistics, clubs saw a rush of new and returning ..read more
