The former Texas Longhorn is the first Seahawks draft pick under new head coach Mike Macdonald.
For the second straight season and fourth time in the last six, the Seattle Seahawks used their top pick of the NFL Draft on a defensive player. Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy II was one of only nine defenders taken in Round 1, and he’s the latest addition to the Seahawks’ retooled interior front.

Penix went to the Atlanta Falcons at No. 8 overall.
The first surprise of the 2024 NFL Draft was the Atlanta Falcons drafting former Washington Huskies star quarterback Michael Penix Jr with the No. 8 overall pick. Penix’s stock rose considerably in recent weeks to the point where there was confidence that he’d be taken in the first round, but not necessarily that high.
Atlanta signed Kirk Cousins (off an Achilles tear, mind you!) to a four-year contract worth up to $180 million, including $100 million guaranteed. The Falcons nevertheless seem to have his ..read more

The Seahawks add a playmaker to their defensive line!
The Seattle Seahawks have made their first selection of the Mike Macdonald era, and they used it to draft Texas Longhorns defensive tackle Byron Murphy II!
Murphy was considered the best defensive tackle in the draft, if not the best defensive player. With the first 14 picks coming off the board all on offense, Murphy feel into Seattle’s lap at No. 16 overall. The Seahawks got themselves a 21-year-old blue-chip defensive tackle at a time when interior defensive linemen are highly prized ..read more

The top of the NFL Draft has been about as QB-heavy as possible.
Anyone hoping the Seattle Seahawks would draft a quarterback at No. 16 or even a little bit further down in the 2024 NFL Draft... I have some bad news for you.
As expected, USC’s Caleb Williams went to the Chicago Bears at No. 1, followed by LSU’s Jayden Daniels at No. 2 to the Washington Commanders, and then North Carolina’s Drake Maye was taken at No. 3 by the New England Patriots.
Then things got really fun.
The Atlanta Falcons, having signed Kirk Cousins to a $160 million contract with $10 ..read more

The Rams are reportedly angling for a big draft day trade.
The Los Angeles Rams are eight years removed from their last first-round selection. Now that they’re finally involved again on Day 1 of the NFL Draft, it looks like they’re looking to take a big swing.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports that the Rams, who are currently No. 19 in the draft order, are angling for a leap into the top-10.
The Rams, who haven't picked in the first round since 2016, are calling to get into the top 10, per sources.

Trade up? Trade down? Stand pat? And then who will the Seahawks draft with their first pick? We make our predictions.
It’s Day 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit. The Seattle Seahawks are slated to pick at No. 16 overall, but it’s far from a guarantee that they’ll stay there. We could see our first trade down from Seattle’s top pick since 2019, and it isn’t far-fetched to think the Seahawks could skip the first-round entirely. A trade-up would be a stunner, and one can only assume they’d do that for a quarterback.

This expansive list includes Round 1 prospects all the way to potential UDFAs.
The 2024 NFL Draft is just hours away. Unlike the last two years, it’s shaping up to be a quieter draft for the Seattle Seahawks, who have seven picks but only three through the end of Friday. Expect the Seahawks to trade down and most likely end up with more picks than they started the draft with.
In the weeks leading up to the draft, every team gets up to 30 formal in-person meetings with college prospects, who are brought into the team facility for interviews and a physical. These are ca ..read more
