The middle school boys of Harlem Lacrosse - Baltimore have long partnered with Loyola Men’s Lacrosse. This year is no different, and we are excited to fold our newest program from ACCE Middle School into the mix! Earlier this month, the Women’s Lacrosse program at Virginia State University hosted a Fall scrimmage event for HBCUs that included Virginia State University, Howard University, University of the District of Columbia, Delaware State University, and Morgan State University. Harlem Lacrosse - Philadelphia piloted a partnership with PLUS tutoring this year during Summer Academy. All middle school participants engaged in personalized virtual math tutoring twice a week in Olney in an effort to combat summer learning loss. In Philadelphia, math PSSA results are a leading limiting factor in the high school selection process. As a part of the Deloitte MADE initiative, the Middle School Boys cohort in Philadelphia explored career opportunities in accounting and beyond with Deloitte professionals. Discussions led the group to dream about their futures, considering their interests and plans for high school and beyond. The Deloitte team members share anecdotes from their own experiences as high school and college students, and encouraged the group to think about a life beyond playing sports, to think about ways to push the envelope on what is possible for their future careers. Philadelphia high school participants visited Leonardo Helicopters offices connected to the North East Airport on Tuesday July 25th. Hosted by volunteer Assistant Coach Ray Coleman, the group toured the factory facilities and learned about numerous career opportunities at Leonardo including manufacturing, logistics, safety compliance monitoring, marketing, human resources, and more. On Monday, July 17th, Harlem Lacrosse - Philadelphia girls joined up with athletes from all over the city at Citizens Bank Park for the first ever Philadelphia Sports Girls Initiative. All six professional sports franchises came together for the day to expose girls to a variety of sports including baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer, and lacrosse.
