The Weekly Discussion Thread is a place where everyone in the /r/kayakfishing community can come and ask questions or share anything.
You might have questions that you don't think deserve an entire post. Perhaps you're just seeking the input of some other anglers. Maybe you want to share a picture of your new gear.
Anyone is free to comment, and (hopefully) get as much input as possible from other anglers.

Hey y’all! Have an opportunity to buy a Sea Ghost 110 that has only been used 4 times for $550. She is even willing to accept my old kayak for a credit amongst a few other things she’s interested in. I’ve done my research through this sub and it sounds like a great deal. Looking for any and all opinions. Thank you!!

Faster you pedal the louder it gets. Annoying! Gear system is sealed so guess it’s normal. IDK

I don’t see much discussion about Kakus on here. This would be my first kayak and only for fresh water (small lakes, big reservoirs.) I’ve been looking at the Kaku Zulu pedal drive and tbh after all the videos and reviews I’ve seen, they seem to be an excellent bang for the buck. 500 lb capacity, the seat is apparently extremely comfortable/stable, lots of storage space and plenty of room to add anchor or trolly motors. I think the biggest selling point for me is to be able to take out the pedal drive and add a 2nd chair to take out the wife or one of my kids.
For 2,300 shipped, it seems to b ..read more

just got my first fish finder (garmin 4cv), question on using it to target fish:
do you see the fish below you and immediately try to target them? or do you more generally try to find areas specifically? how much lag is there between what i pass over and what i see on the screen typically? should i be casting behind me?
i fished with it the first time last sunday and i was seeing big fish as i was crossing the middle of the lake to get to the coves but didnt have any bites by casting behind me as i was passing by. i caught fish in the cove but i was seeing NOTHING on the finder there (because ..read more

I’m looking to get my first used hobie. I had a vibe sea ghost and I loved it, but it was pretty big imo for a non-pedal drive. I’m looking at a Hobie sport 9 ($800) and a passport 10.5 ($1200, hopefully less).
Any opinions on the sport 9 for fishing? I’d mainly be fishing canals, and the intercoastal in Florida. I’d love to be able to launch from the beach and fish the ocean. Can the 9 handle this? A big question I have here too is how easily can I mod the seat? I don’t kind a nice DIY, but I’m not familiar with hobies and what’s out there. The sport im looking at doesn’t have a raised stadi ..read more
