First and foremost I will just say that what happened this week in Baltimore is a tragedy and I am in no means here to make light of the situation. With that being said I had a RMI guest speaker today in one of my classes and he was talking about the situation, and I just wanted to ask and see if anyone on here is working on the situation and aftermath?

I’m currently signed up to take the February-April ATPA assessment. I was planning to take it in a couple weeks. Studying is going well and I picked up R really quickly, but my mother is really sick and it is causing me a lot of distress. I don’t know if I would perform the best at this point and I feel like I need a little less stress in my life right now. Does anyone know if I can save my registration for next sitting instead? Do I need to email the SOA? Will I (well, my company) have to pay the fee again?
I vaguely recall reading somewhere that if you don’t take the exam in your chosen exa ..read more

Hello smart people. I'm looking for an actuary or a service to connect with one to help me create a model. I'm the COO of a solar installation company, MIT grad, professional engineer and fairly strong mathematical background. My task is to predict NPV cash liabilities associated with a 25 year warranty. I have 20 years of historical data and have a pretty solid idea of how to build the model. I really would love to bounce some ideas off of someone and see if I'm approaching this real life problem properly. Any volunteers or recommendations welcome. Happy to share other information via DM, et ..read more

Just wanted to have an open ended discussion on this topic. For some history, the US Supreme Court ruled that insurance should be regulated at the federal level. That ruling was then overturned by congress shortly thereafter. This is one of the few times Congress has ever overturned an SC ruling.

I tried to look through old posts but couldn’t find anything similar to this question. I’m curious if anyone has a preference on when they receive exam results. If given the choice, would you prefer instant results or wait a bit to receive them? For people that have had both (I’m about to take my first non-instant result exam) what did you like better?
Logically, instant results make more sense but after an exam I’m so keyed up I think I would prefer a week or so to cool down.
I was just curious what everyone’s thoughts were, god knows we’ll never get the choice between the two.
