When Vision Baptist Church was officially started in March of 2006 we had all the dreams and desires of most church plants. We prayed that God would use our combined efforts to see people come to know Christ and become followers of Him.   Last night we saw an answer to the prayers of many people. It has been our desire for many years now to have the opportunity to serve in the local jail by leading Bible studies. Over the last year, especially, Joseph Reidy has kept this prayer requests before us. We are so thankful this door has been opened to us and we pray it remains open. After Kason Bloom received word there would be an opportunity for us to send in teams of men and women on  a monthly basis he quickly began recruiting volunteers. We had a great Sunday this past week as we celebrated the fourth of July by having our annual Tailgate Sunday. Many different Sunday school classes made different foods from Tamale’s to BBQ sliders to Indian food. We had a great time celebrating with each other. We had 290 people in attendance Sunday morning with 158 in the main service. We were excited to see a lot of visitors and members in attendance. We had another great Sunday at Vision Baptist Church with 264 in attendance! Pastor preached a challenging message in our current Sunday AM series through the book of Mark entitled, “Living in Victory.” When we are saved we are made to not live in sin, God has given us power over sin and in Christ we can live in victory over sin. Each month we try to spotlight members of our church. By spotlighting members of our church, we hope to give you the opportunity to better know the people of Vision. This month, take some time to get to know Lemar and Latasha.   Lemar did not grow up in a Christian home. The only reason he went to church one day at the age of seventeen was because his friend from high school invited him. That night was the night he realized his need for the Savior and got saved. I Corinthians 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.  Paul makes it clear in I Corinthians 15 that if Jesus did not rise from the dead, then we have wasted our lives. Believing in Jesus is about much more than this life. If there is no life after death, then we are wasting our lives. I Corinthians 14:3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.  Paul was contrasting the gift of prophecy and the gift of tongues. The people were so impressed with those that spoke in tongues while the greater impression should have been with those that prophesied.  The prophecy was them getting a message from God for the people.
