I might sound like a pretentious professor, but it's known that a melody has two main elements- pitch and rhythm.
I think my rhythm is satisfying. What bugs me is that no matter what pitch I assign to the notes, it always ends up sounding like I am loitering up and down the scale. And it kinda feels like it lacks direction.
How do I solve this problem? I use a DAW BTW.

I would say i'm pretty good at writing chord progressions for the chorus of a song but i always struggle with writing a corresponding progression for the verse. it usually ends up sounding boring or it just doesn't really fit. if anyone has any advice i'd love to hear it
