Living in CoVid-free bubble-bliss New Zealand, there were concerts and rugby games and movie theaters and crowded restaurants. No masks, no social distancing, no rules to break – and this was pre-vaccine! Sheep visiting our front yard pre-vaccine. So peaceful. Irony: post-vaccine we now have masks, lockdowns, and anti-vaccers. Thank you Delta for bursting our Kiwi bubble. Can anyone remember those brief three months just after vaccines (March 1, 2021) and just before Delta (June, 2021) when we thought the nightmare was on its way out? an abbreviated history and seven month update for Travel in the Time of Coronavirus CoVid19 has now been with us for 1 year +. So sad for the entire world, but for me it is even more sad that this shared catastrophe has not brought the world population together in common cause. My own inconveniences have been minor, and all have felt like adventures – I had to abort my Gig Harbor, WA prison contract after only three weeks (of four months) because this was March, 2020 and borders and flights everywhere were closing down unpredictably, immediately and without warning. New Zealand – Where I’ve lived for two years + 8 months. Where I am now a legal, permanent resident. Where I can now vote and am eligible for national health coverage. A country that for 102 days eliminated CoVid in the community – until one week ago. A nation of two main islands, VERY far from anywhere else – which makes virus control easier. We didn’t know our illusion of being CoVid-free was just that, illusion. We DID know how lucky we were. We appreciated this.
