What a turnaround in performance, coming from 29-points behind and winning a thrilling contest. The first quarter, while the start was bright, quickly unfolded into a disaster. Trailing by 28-points at quarter time, the Cats missed an easy chance - not the only one, they kicked 16 behinds after all - to go up by 5-goals, and quite probably put the Swans out of the contest for good. The youngsters put on a goal-scoring masterclass in the second quarter, with Chad Warner's stepping goal, Errol Gulden, Dylan Stephens, Oliver Florent, and Justin McInerney dragging the Swans within a straight kick ..read more

Not much to say really, it was a dire performance from the opening bounce to the final whistle. Very little to cheer about, more injuries suffered, more woe, and more wounds to pour bags of salt into. So many aspects the Swans normally pride themselves on were abject or outright missing. It was as bad a performance as that disgraceful effort against Carlton in early 2017. There's going to be a lot of sore bodies. B: H. Cunningham, L. Melican, K. Brand HB: G. Hewett, J. Dawson, J. Bugger! 2-point loss after a pulsating final minute. Three entries, a snapshot that was marked on the line, and Jordan Dawson should have had a set shot from 50 metres out with a little over 20 seconds remaining in the match. Another match for the Swans where they had to grind it out, and they almost did it, but the injury toll is starting to stack up. We've lost three of our best players in the last two weeks - Isaac Heeney and Dane Rampe to hand injuries, while Tom Hickey has a suspected PCL rupture. Sam Reid more than held his own, sensational even, but with Hickey and Reid out of action ..read more

Justin and Josh review the nailbiting cliffhanger against the Bombers at the SCG on Thursday night. Essendon tested our mettle from first to the last whistle, the resolve of our younger players was strong and they stuck to the formula through to the final whistle, coming out ahead. Essendon came with a plan, brought their a-game, and the Swans won out in the end, faced significant pressure in the last quarter, and didn't wilt. It was a coming of age performance. Under lights at the SCG on Thursday night, an exhausted and depleted Sydney Swans outlasted a desperate but ultimately unlucky young Essendon Bomber team in another Thursday night classic. Lance Franklin returned to the side to haunt Essendon once more, his final goal of the match sealing the win for the plucky Swans, extending their lead to 10 points with minutes left on the clock, setting up a crucial Swans win, and extending their stunning start of the season to 4-0. https://twitter.com/sydneyswans/status/1380294387582832641 It was the fifth time in their past seven contests that the resul ..read more

WOW. What a heart-stopper, what a win. Essendon came to town with a plan. They executed it, almost beautifully, and gave themselves almost every chance of a win. It wasn't pretty by any standards... no it was occasionally bloody ugly. The pressure from both sides was phenomenal, with Essendon running out the match, ranked elite. Their last quarter, in particular, was manic, desperate, and incredible, and the young Swans didn't wilt. They went to work, they burrowed, they worked, and they won. Blakey burning Buddy will be talked about and laughed about no doubt, but it was McInerney's stunning ..read more

For the second time this season, the Sydney Swans welcomes back the biggest name in AFL, superstar forward Lance Franklin, for their Round 4 clash against the Bombers at the SCG on Thursday night. After kicking three goals in the Swans' 33-point win against Adelaide in Round 2, Franklin trained strongly and firmed for selection leading into the weekend. John Longmire said it was fantastic to have the spearhead back in the team. "He trained today and he's been pulling up well," Longmire said. "His program was that he trained last week really hard and trained again Saturday, trained today and ..read more
