Round 21 of the 2022 AFL season saw the Pies get it done in a tight one AGAIN, while Richmond look set for a September return. Here’s how it looked for punters:  The run continues It’s almost getting silly now. Collingwood won their 11th game on the bounce on Friday night and most incredibly, four more points saw the Pies ($3.12 outsiders against Melbourne pre-game) claim a 10th win by under two goals this season. At one stage $101 AFL Premiership outsiders, they now look set to finish inside the Top 4 in 2022. Prior to the game questions still hung around Collingwood and their ability to ..read more

AFL – Swans surge into flag contention

After a dominant last month of footy, Sydney have more than halved their AFL Premiership price as they surge into 2022 flag contention. The fallout was brutal four weeks ago after Round 16 when, comfortably leading a lowly Essendon side in the final term at the MCG, the Swans fluffed a number of chances in front of goal and let the Dons overrun them in a big upset. Obvious questions emerged post-match. ‘If Sydney can’t hold a lead against a side like Essendon at the MCG, how will they get it done in September, against far tougher sides, at the same venue?’. The Swans, who had been there or the ..read more

Round 20 of the 2022 AFL season saw a Sunday thriller with huge Top 8 ramifications, while Collingwood hit a perfect 10 on Saturday afternoon. Here’s how it looked for punters:  Tigers stay alive What. A. Game. If Richmond’s Round 15 clash against Geelong at the MCG was the best game of the season, then the Round 20 game against Brisbane at the same venue was a close second. At 42 points down in the second term, the Tigers (marginal $1.78 favourites pre-game) hauled back Brisbane in stunning fashion as the Lions’ MCG hoodoo continued. But this result was all about Richmond. Six points out ..read more

AFL – Contenders or Pretenders? Pies in the mix

An incredible AFL season has seen Collingwood deliver nine-straight wins. However many of those victories have been by under a kick, and pundits are split on their 2022 chances. After finishing 17th in 2021, a year in which they said goodbye to a long-serving coach and club legend, Collingwood’s 4-5 start after nine rounds was far from poor. New coach Craig McRae had shifted the way the Pies played (compared with under Nathan Buckley), and a general consensus emerged that thew new brand was more attacking. It was also more entertaining. At this stage, more optimistic fans were perhaps hoping t ..read more

Round 19 of the 2022 AFL season saw the year’s best finish, the year’s first draw, and a new premiership favourite emerge. Here’s how it looked for punters:  Billy brilliance gives Pies nine straight How do they keep doing it? Collingwood registered their NINTH win on the trot in the most incredible fashion on Sunday afternoon — Jamie Elliott converting from the tightest of angles on the 50m arc, after the siren, to secure a four-point win over rivals Essendon. The Pies ($1.70 pre-game favourites) shot out to an early 37-point lead before the tides completely shifted; Essendon pushing out ..read more

AFL – Are Brisbane’s flag hopes slipping?

Brisbane is losing momentum despite their prospects for a Top 4 finish in 2022, and with it their AFL premiership hopes are slipping. In the early stages of this season, Brisbane were the clear second-favourites for the 2022 premiership. While Melbourne burst out of the blocks to 10-0, the Lions were just behind them in flag betting each week from Round 2 onwards. In fact, up until AFL Round 14 Chris Fagan’s men remained the key second choice for most punters, and at that stage were $5.00 hopes with Palmerbet. But something has changed at the Lions, and momentum is stalling at a crucial point ..read more

After a 57-year wait, Melbourne are Premiers. And while the scoreline might suggest otherwise, the 2021 AFL Grand Final was one for the ages. Here’s how it looked for punters:  Dees drought done! The Swans did it in 2005. The Cats in 2007. The Dogs in 2016, and the Tigers in 2017. And now the Dees, in 2021, have broken a famous Premiership drought. And to the sheer delight of their success-starved fans, they did it in the most astonishing fashion. Let’s go through the numbers. Starting as $1.64 favourites, Simon Goodwin’s men got off to a rollicking start, with $15 first goal kicker chanc ..read more
