Part of #ExplainAdultADHD.  A campaign to reduce the ignorance, misinformation, and stigma against adults with ADHD. We All Have ADD Sometimes. It’s Not A Thing. “I was up late last night not sleeping. Thinking about how to to describe ADHD to someone who doesn’t understand it or doubts it. The Stigma that comes with it. How do I respond to the all too often minimizing statement? “ We all are ADD. I have that too. What you experience is normal for everyone” Ok then: take a bad day. You’re off day. You misplaced your keys, glasses, phone and you are panicking, running around and turn ..read more

There will likely be a Canadian federal election called tomorrow. I’m a political science major whose hobby is politics. I had to get a separate politics twitter account @pqpolitics because I was putting so much politics on my ADHD twitter account @petequily. So being the curious type, I did site search in Google for ADHD on each of the websites of Canada’s 4 main federal parties, Liberals, NDP, Conservatives and Greens to see how often they mentioned the word ADHD in their websites. Anyone can do #PretendingToCare about Mental Health, but what matters is policy. What are their actua ..read more

Part of #ExplainAdultADHD.  A campaign to reduce the ignorance, misinformation, and stigma against adults with ADHD.   Please Don’t Count Me Out. “In nature there is good, bad, defective, and different.  The brains of people with ADD and ADHD fall into the category of different.  Actually we fit into all of those categories in different ways and under different circumstances. Having ADHD is good in situations that require determination, thinking outside the box, empathy, sensitivity, understanding, and acceptance.  ADHD is bad when leadership, management, organiz ..read more

Another satisfied Adult ADHD coaching client. “The highest compliment I can think of is what happened when I paused coaching in order to save for another goal. My boyfriend immediately frowned and said that he was a little sad to hear it; coaching had been such a good thing. Not only did I learn tools like the Experiment Log that I still use, but I slowly started to accept behaviours that I never liked but couldn’t shake. They weren’t as harmful as I had always thought, and accepting them as part of having ADHD made me calmer than I expected it to. Thank you, Coach! I look forward to working w ..read more

Part of #ExplainAdultADHD.  A campaign to reduce the ignorance, misinformation, and stigma against adults with ADHD. You’re Not ADHD If You Are Having A Rough Day. Live In My Head For At Least 30 Seconds. When I try to explain that I’m living with ADHD, some people tell me, “We’re all ADHD”. It makes my stomach turn. I want to tell them, “Live in my head for at least 30 seconds, you’ll be begging for mercy”. People that I have dated in the past, couldn’t handle me. Others have shot down my self-esteem. I lost my career in the Navy, after receiving a diagnosis. Coworkers would get ir ..read more

Part of #ExplainAdultADHD.  A campaign to reduce the ignorance, misinformation, and stigma against adults with ADHD. Aim For The Stars. Avoid The Black Holes. “ADHD gifts and potential can contribute positively towards meeting team requirements, where managers are trusted and ADHD aware.  I openly speak to line managers about my strengths and sometimes my challenges (ummm….such as taking breaks). I very much appreciate that these managers have spotted my potential to ‘deep dive’ into transformative projects and I have been actively encouraged to take on related responsib ..read more

Part of #ExplainAdultADHD.  A campaign to reduce the ignorance, misinformation, and stigma against adults with ADHD. ADHD And Love (Or Lack There Of) Explain Adult ADHD “I am a 32-year-old woman who was diagnosed with ADHD just two years ago. They said I was a “classic case” of a young girl who struggled in school and life not really knowing why, only to be diagnosed as an adult. Everything that I have since learned about ADHD and how it affects my life and mind has been overwhelming, comforting, heartbreaking and liberating all at once. Particularly how it has affected my heart. Over the ye ..read more
