Please help Business Credit card (not connected to QBO) was used for personal expenses. The owner wants to pay it back. Today, I saw the Bank account’s bank feed. The owner deposited the amount to the Bank Checking account and it’s sitting there as a “deposit”. How will I categorize this? How will this match up with the Credit card’s expense? Any way to get experience by yourself?

I’ve exhausted so many avenues. I live in such a small town. No one is hiring and any potential employers shut me down after they realize I have my own tax firm and don’t plan on working there year around. I am working on my bachelors degree and my enrolled agent status at the same time. But i am very competent in accounting. I just need experience. Are there any alternatives? I’ve messaged close to 50 CPAs/accounting firms. 4 interviews and all of them said they would need me to work year around. I don’t get it submitted by /u/LRMcDouble [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Anyone still using an old version of Sage / Peachtree? How long can I get away with using it?

I never had to use accounting software in the past for my own personal needs, but have access to Peachtree (Sage) 2010. My goal is to stay away from having to use any sort of subscription based accounting software, which seems like how the current Sage, QB, and other accounting programs seem to currently operate. I know this is probably a bit of a broad question, since it may depend on the growth/size of the company, but how long can I get away with using the 2010 version of Peachtree before I hit some sort of limit that would require me to convert to the subscription based accounting version ..read more

A company accidentally charged my business card twice a few months ago but has yet to refund me for the accidental charge. So, I'm wondering what to do with this transaction since the money is technically spent but I didn't buy anything. Thank you! :) submitted by /u/Same_Reaction_8283 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello everyone , I'm having hard time trying to figure out what my next steps should be as my salary has been stagnating . Basically I've been a bookkeeper for 5 years now, I've mainly been bookkeeping for a small service firm. I have also done ap/ar and payroll roles. My salary has not moved very much since then. I've also tried applying to other jobs but salary range is similiar. I have a bachelor's degree in accounting but unfortunately since it's been awhile I have not had any luck getting accounting jobs such as staff accountant. I feel it's too late for me to move into an accounting rol ..read more

Bookkeepers of Reddit - working on setting up invoicing for a law firm in QBO. They want to display the legal retainer balance on every invoice, but they don’t want it to reduce the total amount due. They just want to report this to the client so they are aware. Is there a work around for this? The best I’ve come up with creating a custom field and adjusting as needed. submitted by /u/MaleficentFly1390 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I am severely undercharging for my services I feel. Because switching to fully remote during COVID, I took jobs on indeed for $20+ an hour range. Bookkeeping can be such a low wage job! I have an international marketing client with 8 bank accounts—one of which is Singapore based, 4 credit card users that come into Xero separately, Wise and Coinbase for international payments. I make upward of 40 payments to contractors using Wise, PayPal and Coinbase. Plus I run one quarterly payroll for the owner. I provide P & L’s from Xero for 5 business units under the one LLC, track loans etc. Everyt ..read more

Question: correcting overstated amount in the CRJ

Hi everyone, I am a new Book Keeping student and we are doing Bank Recon this week. There is an amount that is overstated in the CRJ, how would I adjust this? 1) By crediting the difference in the CPJ? or 2) By entering the difference as a negative amount in the CRJ? My thought is 1) because I have not seen any examples of a negative entry in the CRJ. Your help would be greatly appreciated! submitted by /u/Pashungap [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Dealing with deferred revenue / unearned income (annual payments)

Curious how people bookkeep their annual payments for a monthly subscription service... I want to make my income / sales show up properly in my reports so I can calculate a few different things (net revenue retention, average revenue per customer/month, etc) Example case: Monthly Subscription: $100 A customer pays 1 year in advance: $1200 + tax (5%) = $1250. We get hit with a $50 credit card processing fee (as an example) so we end up with $1200 in our chequing account. Do I need to make some journal entries in this case and then manage the journal entries month by month? How would this scale ..read more
