Latinx Mentorship Program In November 2019, the Sankofa program began a partnership with Teach2Learn to collaborate in the Latinx Mentorship Program. The program, which has been serving youth for over 10 years, focuses on helping Latin American newcomer youth to settle in Canada as well as promoting the recovery of cultural identity for Canadian-born youth of Latin American background. The workshops are facilitated in English and in Spanish, and there are always volunteer mentors more than happy to translate. THE NEWCOMER CLUB  AT ETOBICOKE COLLEGIATE INSTITUTE In February, the Sankofa and Youth in Action programs partnered with North York Community House to start an after-school program for newcomer students at Etobicoke Collegiate. The Newcomer Club is run on Thursdays right after school, from 3:30 to 5:30. During the first sessions, we have done fun icebreakers and team-building exercises for the participants to mingle and get to know each other. Caroline or Change  Getting a chance to go watch a  musical is not an everyday event for some Canadians. Thanks to The Musical Stage Co. a group of newcomer youth from the Youth in Arts Program were invited to go experience for Black History Month the new performance of Caroline or Change on Monday, February 3rd 2020.  The youth had a blast going and learning about the historical aspect of this beautiful and last surviving, Edwardian Stacked Theatre.  The performance was amazing and we had great seats!  It was such a fun event for everyone ..read more
