Chocolate, waffles, moules-frites, beer. Gingerbread lookalike Houses . Cobblestoned streets laced with meandering canals lined with weeping willows. Welcome to Brugges! Brugges is a fairytale’esque little corner of Belgium, found in the Flemish region (also known as Flanders) and often called the Venice of the North because of the canals that run through pretty much the entire city. Brugges is postcard picture perfect: a sleepy medieval city that feels like it is just awakening from its slumber. Markt Square fringed with its gingerbread lookalike houses and horses with carriages is like walk ..read more

Footsteps in Portugal… 24 hours in Porto

Tucked away in Northern Portugal, Porto is a charming yet often overlooked and underrated city in Europe. It may be associated with Port – sweet fortified wine, but exploring Porto revealed its many hidden layers. We found Porto to be a treasure trove of beautiful culture, inspiring architecture, great food and wine in addition to what it is known for – its Port and our jaunt here was proof enough that Porto deserves an accolade for being known for so much more than just a city that produces Port. Hello Porto! Set at the mouth of the Douro River, which winds its way through the heart of the ..read more

Are you a fan of chocolate? Wayne Gerard Trotman got it spot on when he said about these delicious morsels of delight that: “As long as there is chocolate, there will be happiness” There are many theories as to how chocolate was invented, some say the Mexicans and other the Aztecs, but whatever the case, it is undisputed that chocolate is now universal. A Mary Chocolatier Chocolate Box Let’s head to Belgium then, shall we?   Known for beer, frites and waffles, Belgium is also famous for its chocolate. After all, the praline was invented in Brussels over 100 years ago, so it is no wonder ..read more

A Walk Down Memory Lane of Harpreet’s Wanderlust…Footsteps Across The Globe

Dear Wanderluster, It has been more than a three-month hiatus since I gave my little space of the interwebs a second thought. The truth is, with everything that is going on with the world at the moment, blogging has been the last thing on my mind. Yet, I miss the cathartic feeling of writing and reminiscing about all the epic adventures had while travelling, and planning travel in what are now fast becoming the “good old days”. Sigh. Ever the romantic at heart, I, like most Wanderlusters, do dream of the day that whatever “this” is begins to make sense and I live in secret hope that we can alm ..read more

Footsteps in Champagne…Celebrating The Land of Bubbles and Fizz!

With its golden hue and effervescent bubbles, Champagne is the luxury drink most associated with happy occasions and celebrations. It is also happens to be one of my favourite all time drinks, well, on par with a chilled rose or a Cosmopolitan, when the occasion doesn’t call for bubbles! With the current Pandemic ongoing, larger celebrations may be on hold temporarily, but in the spirit of Global Champagne Day, I thought that I would celebrate by sharing some memories of my time in Champagne, at what now seems like a simpler era…. Road Trippin Through ChampagneBut first, where is Champagne? T ..read more

Checking In…To The Iconic Giraffe Manor

A Little Story If you live in Nairobi, you will be familiar with the Giraffe Centre, and if you don’t live in Nairobi but you google “top things to do when in Nairobi”, Giraffe Centre comes out as one of the top three. For this wanderluster, a visit to the Giraffe Centre was a frequent childhood treat growing up. Our visits were usually on a random Saturday afternoon, and visiting this place was something that always excited me. Why? Because I loved one giraffe in particular: and her name was Daisy. Mum would say “we are going to see Daisy today” and that would have me grinning from ear to ear ..read more

WanderInspo…Reminiscing about Footsteps Across The Globe On A Plate…

Plate, not plane. Yes, you read right. The title of this post isn’t a typo – as much as I miss everything to do with planes and am dreaming of the day that I can set foot on a plane again, this title is the theme of this month’s #travellinkup! Food. Everyone has to eat, and food is a common language amongst a diverse planet. Food is comforting and speaks to the soul, and in my world, becomes even more pertinent when I travel. Think back to the last place you wanderlusted in. You will remember the sights, sounds and smells. The museums and sites visited. The hotel you stayed at. Perhaps even th ..read more
