Sakliba slighted, Rice rejoicing – the internationals still rumble on…

Oh Didier….if you’re gonna come for Big Bill Saliba, you better swing hard and true, because we Arsenal fans will have his back for sure! Of course I’m sure Deschamps couldn’t give a monkeys about us and what we feel, but regardless of that, it does feel a little crass of him to make comments about how Saliba hasn’t been that great for France, that he’s lower down in the pecking order, etc. I’ve read a couple of comments on the translation not seeming as harsh as it does in English. For reference, here’s what he said: “He is having a good season, but he also does things that I don’t like so m ..read more

The calm before the Arsenal storm

Morning Gooners and happy Monday to you and yours. As anticipated I went on a proper bender on Saturday night and so was not fit to do anything other than lie on the sofa feeling sorry for myself yesterday, but I’m back amongst the living today – just – and thankfully it seems so are our players who played over the weekend for their national teams. Rice played the full 90 minutes+, Jorginho got 67 minutes yesterday for Italy, Havertz played and scored for Germany who also had the decency to not even give Saliba one minute of football. Big Bill Saliba is arguably one of the top defenders in wor ..read more

Latest international hurdle overcome for our Arsenal lads

So it looks like the second international hurdle has been overcome this week; it appears that Odegaard did 86 minutes and came off and I’m not seeing any news of any knocks, so that’s all gravy. Sadly Haaland also played 75 minutes so noises of his supposed injury – whilst he also quashed himself in the pre match press conference – were clearly way wide of the mark. Thomas Partey isn’t with the Ghana national team so we can breathe easy with that particular fixture, whilst David Raya went off at halftime in what feels like a pre-planned decision to give equal minutes to the ‘keepers, so that’s ..read more

Morning Gooners, hope we’re all good? Happy Friday and all that jazz. I had a weird ol’ dream last night, I gotta tell ya. Leeds United and Brighton teamed up to play us in a Premier League game at Elland Road, which the Premier League allowed obviously (must have been too focused on chucking out charges and seeing them through against anyone but Man City), so we had to navigate a Marvel Team Up style battle against these sides where they got to pick their best players. The good news is that we absolutely five-a-side-style smashed them 10-4, although annoyingly the only time we scored was ..read more

Tomiyasu deal suits all parties

Another one of the current crop tied down, as Arsenal announced that Takehiro Tomiyasu has extended his stay with the club by signing a new deal. And it was a lovely video that the club posted to announce it too: Dedication. Determination. Tomiyasu pic.twitter.com/2Q6kGZWNza — Arsenal (@Arsenal) March 20, 2024 We all love Tomi, I think that’s a given, so getting him to extend his stay with us is great. But perhaps it is a mark of some of the challenges he’s had since joining us, the deal itself is only an additional year extension. Clearly the player wants to stay and extending that was his ..read more

Predicting Arsenal’s last 12 games

With still little going on of any substance from an Arsenal perspective, I thought I’d have a little look in to the current run in we’ve got until the end of the season and make some assumptions on what I think might happen. Of course none of it will actually happen, because I’m one of the worst predictors of sports outcmes on the planet, but as I’m here and there’s nothing else going on for at least the next 11 days, might as well give it a go. Shakespearian aside moment: Erling Haaland supposedly limping off in training is NOT news that will impact us. He will be back and fine come our game ..read more

Morning Gooners, how we all doing on this Tuesday morn? Are you glass half empty or glass half full kind of feeling? The reason I ask is after the new yesterday that Gabriel has withdrawn from the upcoming Brazilian national team friendlies that they have coming up over the next week. On the one hand the first thought is ‘Oh no, what’s happened here?’, but on the other hand, you think back to bygone eras of the past where Fergie’s United players would come down with mystery illnesses or injuries ahead of these types of windows, then suddenly reappear for the first game after the international ..read more

Decent Premier League and FA Cup weekend, considering there was no Arsenal
Suburban Gooners

Not having The Arsenal on this weekend meant a jeopardy-free weekend in terms of how I was feeling when looking at both Premier League and FA Cup games, but despite that, there were still a few preferred outcomes that I was looking for. In the Premier League, for example, Villa and the Scum dropping points was good, because it puts more distance between us and them. I know it sounds crazy given that all the talk is how we can overcome City and Liverpool, but I still bear the battle scars of many years as an Arsenal fan and so I’m conditioned a little bit to look at those below us and make sure ..read more

It had to be Bayern and Kane, didn’t it?

It just had to be bloody Bayern Munich, didn’t it, eh? On Thursday I wrote about my preference about who I’d like to see us play in the quarter-final and on that list Bayern finished fifth out of eight, so it almost felt inevitable that we were going to get one of the toughest opponents in the next round. If I’m going to look at the glass half full side of things, I could say that we have at least avoided the two worst ties we could have hoped for in City or Real Madrid, but of course with the semi final draw also taking place, it was always going to be made difficult for us to progress then t ..read more

Ben White signs a new deal, but is shafted by England and Southgate

Morning folks, hope we all good this Friday? With no Arsenal this weekend on account of the FA Cup matches taking place (which will push our game against Chelsea in to April as part of our mega fixture congestion), you’d think there would be little to talk about, but you’d be wrong. Step forward the Benjamin White situation. Firstly and most pleasingly, there was the announcement that he’s signed a new contract at The Arsenal. Much like Aaron Ramsdale, this contract announcement got a really nice and heartfelt video where his teammates talked about him and what he brings to the club: Benjamin ..read more
