Hello! Relatively new to BMWs, but have been riding on and off for the last 25 years. Started on a Suzuki 750 gs, moved to a Harley Sportster, back to Suzuki in the Vstrom. While racking up 85k plus miles on the Strom, commuting, I was drawn to the 1200 GS and the RT, but was always nervous about reliability. I settled on the 2014+1200lc as my comfort zone with price and dependability. I tripped on my 2016 1200 RT with insanely low miles on it, and have racked up 30k+ in a couple of years... Hello, I’m a very new to BMW motorcycling and really haven’t rigiden much in years. The bike I bought this July (2016 R1200RT)had some extra items with it including this windscreen. Can anyone help me what make, etc this is? Never thought about taking a picture of a windshield. It’s difficult. And it’s upside down in the pic. Is this perhaps the original windshield? The embossing on it shows a BMW logo 4663 8382828 (p/n I suppose) DOT 202 MA5 AS6 (I assume a windshield standard) And... Read more ..read more

Gearing up for first track day..

At the guidance of several members here, as well as some soul searching, I've decided to "get over it" and take the bike to a track. I live reasonably close to a few of them, including Carolina Motorsports Park, which seems to open pretty regularly (through different organizations) to motorcycles. A mix of excitement and cold, raw fear (my only motorcycle injuries in 3 decades of riding have been on tracks). Anyway, my fear aside, I'd like to both talk through gear selection; this... Well…well…well, it’s been quite a weekend for me and my beloved Der Beemer. Since I just got my bike titled/registered in Texas on Friday and it’s all cleaned up and looking spiffy, I had hoped that I would be able to enjoy a short ride over the weekend. As I had mentioned in my prior post the bike has been sitting since moving to Texas a year ago, so I wanted to flush the old gas out. Fortunately, I did use a fuel stabilizer and I have have been going out to the garage every couple of... Read more ..read more

My riding buddy Bill and I take annual 14 day riding tours around the pacific NW each spring-summer. This year it will include the BMW Rally in Redmond and then a trip up the oregon / washington coast. When not on the road our bikes are stored in a non-lockable barn in Idaho. I decided to try out a GPS tracker for each bike and settled on the Trak-4 built in Claremore OK. They come in two models, one attaches to the battery of the host vehicle the other has a long lasting LI battery. I... Read more ..read more
