Little Bit Bi

Plans for an online event on 18 Oct 2022, for people who are “a little bit bi”, and would like a welcoming space to talk about it. One thing a lot of bi people have in common is having at some point worried that we “weren’t bi enough“. Part of the stereotype of bisexuality is that you have to be in some sense “50/50”, and most of us aren’t! I think there are probably thousands more people around the UK who are at least “a little bit bi” – yet have felt iffy about going to “bi events”, partly because of a feeling that they perhaps didn’t qualify like the “real” bi people. In reality, you would ..read more

On Tuesday night we held a special session at People's History Museum, with Manchester Pride. We talked about bi representation on television, and below are the names of all the shows people shared for our timeline of TV memories.  Where people included notes about the character portrayal I've added those. 23-minute video briefing about being supportive to bi people. Back in December 2021, I was hired by Switchboard LGBT Helpline to do a session on the theme of bisexuality, for their volunteers.  I did a little presentation, then a Q&A.  They’re based in London, whereas I was in Nottingham, but due to the wonders of internet communication, that didn’t matter :-) They wanted to video the session, for the benefit of volunteers who couldn’t be there on the day.  And I suggested that afterwards, I might share some of it for the benefit of other interested people.  The vi ..read more

Hello again post BiCon

It has been a while and enjoying virtual BiCon has left me feeling like being more in touch with friends. [BiCon being the yearly national get-together for bisexuals and friends] I found BiCon felt a lot like a BiCon this year. It was my 27th and 2nd time it was virtual. I found Discord noisy but OK. I'm not sure what I'd replace it with. The virtual format allowed easier participation by internationals who may or may not have travelled and also some folks with limited energy. I facilitated one workshop session: "Bisexuals working in education or who are students" Bit of a clunky title but h ..read more

Our research into the funding of UK bi organisations is out today! This represents a lot of people’s insights and ideas, gathered by me and Libby (of Biscuit) and John (of the London Bisexual Meetup).  Thanks to everyone who contributed! We said from the start that we wanted our findings to go out in public so that other interested funders could understand the lay of the land, rather than it only being internal to Consortium, who’d commissioned the research. And we know that there are people from within bi communities who’ll be interested too. There are three versions: key points funders ..read more

Goodbye from Bi’s of Colour Bi’s of Colour was formed at BiCon London in 2010 – a year after a racist incident before BiCon 2009 by one of the organisers.  A few of us talked that year about what it would look like to have a safer space for the minority within a minority at the longest running bisexual event in the world. Back then there were only five bisexuals of colour in attendance at BiCon in Worcester, but the following year there were many more.  Twelve of us sat in a room, shared, cried and made connections.  It was the start of something special.   Jacq produced ..read more

Image description: Nila sat in Sam’s Cafe in Brixton, modelling a robot pendant I brought back from Spain for them. Nila, one of the co-founders of Bi’s of Colour died a few days ago. We are all saddened not only by their death, but by the way they were mistreated by people and organisations that were supposed to help disabled, queer People of Colour. We are angry that Nila is yet another example of how a patriarchal, white supremacist society treats the most vulnerable, and how we have to beg and plead for years before we receive the most basic of help. We are tired of seeing bi, trans, quee ..read more
