There’s an open spot on the Seahawks roster. Who will that go to?
The Seattle Seahawks have begun rookie minicamp following last week’s NFL Draft and subsequent undrafted free agent signings. They’ve even wasted little time getting their top draft pick, Byron Murphy II, officially under contract. One down, seven to go on that front.
Now is as good a time as any to outline who’s currently on the 90-man roster after a very busy offseason for John Schneider and Mike Macdonald. It should be noted that there is one open roster spot, so it’ll be interesting to se ..read more

Efforts to become Russell Wilson’s successor backup were unsuccessful, and he soon found himself bouncing around the NFL before falling out of the league entirely.

The Seahawks wasted little time getting their first-round pick under contract.
The Seattle Seahawks’ first draft pick is the first to sign his rookie contract.
On Friday the team announced that defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, this year’s No. 16 overall selection, has agreed to the standard four-year contract (with a fifth-year option) for first-round picks. He signed his deal following the end of Friday’s rookie minicamp practice.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero notes that Murphy’s contract is worth $16,083,122. Since the CBA changed the rookie wage scale in 20 ..read more

The Seahawks will get to see their draft picks on the field at rookie minicamp this weekend, and Friday the team officially announced
The Seattle Seahawks added eight youngish players in the 2024 NFL Draft, including paying lots of attention to the trenches, as half of the eight selections were spent on either the offensive or defensive line. However, the Hawks did not stop addressing things up front there, continuing to pursue several offensive and defensive linemen who went undrafted.
And finally, with rookie minicamp on tap for the weeke ..read more

One of Murphy’s goals is to win Defensive Rookie of the Year.
A week removed from being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks, first-round pick Byron Murphy II flew up from Texas to Renton for his first trip to Seahawks headquarters.
Alongside Seahawks GM John Schneider and first-year head coach Mike Macdonald, Murphy held his first press conference at VMAC.
Quotes from Seahawks.com:
“When I put the stuff on, that’s when I feel like, ‘OK, I’m officially a Seahawk,’” Murphy said as his father, Byron, mother, Seneca and girlfriend Maya Hurd sat nearby along with h ..read more

The Seahawks had three paths before them, and they opted get big and mean and start punching their opponents back.
The Seattle Seahawks stood pat and walked away from the 2024 draft with two projected starting linemen and no major blockbuster trades.
Brady Henderson of ESPN revealed much of the decision-making process that led to the selection of Byron Murphy II at No. 16.
As we posited before the draft, I believe this reveals a few elements of the new partnership between Mike Macdonald and John Schneider.

Also of note: The Seahawks didn’t have Troy Fautanu on their draft board.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Seattle Seahawks opted to “stick-and-pick” with their top draft choice. It’s a 180 from when general manager John Schneider regularly traded down in the first round, which is what he did in 2012, 2014, and 2016-2019. Without a second-round pick this draft due to the Leonard Williams trade, the outside expectation was that we would see the Seahawks return to their trade-down ways.
