Hi, I am planning to move to Beijing with my baby who will be 9 months old. How difficult is it to find an English speaking nanny and how much do they charge?

Former Beijing expat (2008-2014) coming back for first time post-COVID with family in tow. I want to take the Chinese in-laws on a little roadtrip for a few weeks and saw that temporary driver licenses are given. Can I apply for this at Beijing Capital Airport? Any good guides out there for what I need to bring to make the application process smooth?

Does anyone know how to get from Beijing to Ulanbataar by train these days? My friend found a site online that said it had opened in march, but I called the English customer service at 12306 as the site said I should, but they told me they didn’t know anything about it.
If that’s not possible, has anyone taken or know anything about taking a bus to Ulanbataar?

I am planning to go to Beijing for a month or so for study-related purposes. I am wondering if there are any reliable sites/methods to book accommodation /short-term rentals in the city. Most of the hotel booking sites are not helpful in this aspect and the price adds up fast. Thank you so much!

Title. I've been here in China quite a long time and just haven't made the concentrated effort to learn the language. I get by just fine knowing the bare minimum and always have.
I guess I make a lot of excuses as to why I haven't learned it.. have translators, don't use it enough to justify the time I would invest, etc. But I just feel like scum when people ask me how long I've been here cause I know the follow up question is "how's your Chinese??" It makes me just want to lie to the first question to not have to deal with the second one.
SHOULD people like me who have been here so long with ..read more

I'm curious about trying some Chinese bullfrog dish. Any suggestions on restaurants where they make it in Beijing? I know they serve it many places, but I wanted to check if anyone in here has had any bad/good experiences and could share some advice. Thanks!

Hello party people. I’m going to Beijing at the end of may for 10 days with a bigger group and a set schedule. We do have two days off. Do you have recommendations for me what are things, apart from the big destinations that are a must see? We’re doing forbidden city, Great Wall, summer palace, temples all the likes. But is there some smaller spot I could reach in a day? Also, if you have recommendations on where to see a Beijing Opera I’d be thankful for them! I’m generell interested in culture and people, love good food and have been practicing Kung fu and Tai Chi for a couple years now. I ..read more

Does anyone know if Vegemite is available in Beijing (specialty store maybe?) If not, does anyone know if a spread like that would have an issue in customs?
