I recently just swapped out my headjoint, and I'm finding more issues with the new one than with my old one. The new one is supposed to be better, and I see those qualities shining through, except my notes aren't as crisp or my intonation is greatly suffering. I can't tell if this is a headjoint thing or if it's just something where I need to get used to because it's new. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hello, I’m currently trialing a headjoint that is .014 and I play on a .016. I really like this headjoint and I’m intending on purchasing it from the bunch I’ve tried. I know that they make tape for the tenons of the headjoints to fit your flute, but I was curious if a technician could fit this headjoint to my flute or would that be impossible because of the size difference? If not I can just use tape for the long run haha! Thanks!

Getting into low flutes is a journey that I believe every flute player should undertake. Maybe you try it and it is not for you. But it unlocks a world of incredible experiences you can’t have by just playing concert flute and piccolo. For those that missed it, the International Low Flutes Festival was just a week ago. Playing my contrabass alongside 40 others, breaking a world record, and experiencing some amazing performances was an experience I will never forget. The first picture really gives some perspective to how big these double contrabass flutes are. I’m 6’ tall, and my contra st ..read more

Which do you think is more expressive, flute, violin or piano? Why? How would you rank them in order of expressiveness?
Edit: Why am I getting downvoted? :(
Edit 2: After reading all the comments I've received, I've concluded that all three can be equally as expressive, just in different ways. :) The piano gives you more notes you can be expressive with, while the flute and violin let you do more with each note.

First time posting in this sub, and was wondering. How do people get intermediate flutes in high school? I’m a sophomore in high school and really looking to get an intermediate flute. I’ve been playing flute since 6th grade, and feel like I’ve out grown my personal beginner flute.

Some small context. I started playing flute in September and am going to do my grade three exam next month. I've previously been using a rented flute and last week purchased a Jupiter JFL700EC as I think this is something I will be sticking at.
My rented flute did not come with a rod for cleaning nor the cleaning cloths so I just never bothered. Now I've paid the money for this flute I'm trying to look after it as much as possible. Polishing, cleaning and always putting it back inside of it's case after playing.
I'd like to have my flute keep it's brand new sheen for as long as possible b ..read more

I’ve been playing flute since the 6th grade and I’m now about to graduate college with my bachelors. I didn’t major in music, but was still involved with my university’s flute studio and philharmonic. I want to stay involved with the flute but I do feel like I’ve become a little burnt out lately since I’ve been balancing both getting a degree in business while trying to keep up with flute stuff. I plan on looking into some community bands eventually and my local flute society, but I’m worried about staying self motivated to do it. I won’t be taking lessons anymore after I graduate which I fee ..read more
