Well it has been a long time since I have blogged....been a busy year. We have sold our beautiful house and swapped our village life for the life we love.....rural. Well actually we are in a very small hamlet, so peaceful. From our house we can walk straight in the countryside. Only the other day, 2 minutes from the house we saw 2 roe deer, but unfortunately my camera wasn't ready, but it's lovely knowing they are there and so close....I will be prepared next time..  :-) Walking through the tree lined path, dappled with sunshine and the signing of the birds ..read more

Birds of a Feather...

As Spring is approaching, well I think it has arrived, we have had some glorious Spring days. I have been topping up our bird feeders quite regularly, mating season is here I think, as the birds seem to be pairing up and getting quite active. I love watching the birds, most of my viewing is from my bedroom window. We have Cherry Trees and Apple trees, so my feeders are beneath them. I seem to be attracting some new birds which is quite exciting to see. I have just put out some bird houses, I would love for them to take residence, but may take a while ..read more

A glorious Autumn....

What more could you ask for than a warm Autumn...with the leaves turning russet and red then falling to the ground. Clear blue skies, with the last Summer warmth from the sun on our backs.... Earlier we saw some cranes flying over, a clear indicator that cold weather will soon be on it's way... I love walking through our French countryside, when the seasons start changing. The scenery is changing, our wildlife changing...birds migrating, other little creatures hibernating. Love Autumnal colours.. Such beauty, so peaceful. Listening to the birds and the ..read more

Today has been our first ever vendange. Our friends have a few vines and invited us to join them for a day of Grape Harvesting, with a group of our other friends.. What a superb day....glorious sunshine with a clear blue sky. The sun warming our backs as we clip away the bunches of grapes, with a few being quality controlled by ourselves. After collection we separated the grapes from the stalks, and took away any bad grapes that may have sneaked in...then off to the press they went...now they are fermenting in their containers. We stopped for a spot of lunch hosted by the vignerons . A ..read more

It does seem a while since I have been on my blog, but it has been a busy Summer. We have had family & tiddlywinks out, and it will be the first time they have used our new pool. This has proved to be a great success for them and for us....we have had some really hot long days. A splash has been very welcomed :-) They also did some Kayaking down the River Charente... Dining out has always been a great experience for the Tiddlywinks, they love trying different foods, although they do say...I don't want it again .... :-) They thoroughly enjoy a Paella /meat mix cooke ..read more

I love this time of year when everything comes to life. Birds singing away and now producing their young. Crickets chirping....Summer is around the corner. :-) We also have a family of squirrels, they just come and sit and watch us...although caught them eating the bird seeds this morning. The Great Tits have families dotted around the garden, managed to capture mum feeding them ..read more

Spring has sprung..... We are very fortunate to live in a beautiful part of France, the Charente, the 2nd sunniest place in France. This time of year sees everything Spring back into life....trees budding, blossom appearing on the fruit trees, birds singing and nesting....and some babies have already appeared...even the air smells fresh. We have had some glorious "hot" sunshine days...the warmth on your back brings back those lovely memories that Summer is just around the corner. We had our friends round for Easter Sunday Lunch.  Superb fo ..read more

What a glorious day, we have had a few lately so there is a feel in the air that Spring has sprung. Clear blue skies, beautiful sunshine..and the awakening to the Dawn chorus.... I have started doing Nordic walking with a friend. We have been doing this since just before Christmas. We do between 4-5 miles 3 days a week. We leave early in the morning so we can capture the early morning sun  ( and rain :-/ ) Seeing the blue skies gives us a spring in our step..what a better way to walk in the French countryside listening to the birds, and seeing the new growth sprouting in the fie ..read more

Hubbys birthday.....what a treat, I decided to book into our favourite restaurant www.grange-aux-oies.com.  Superb setting, and such pretty grounds, and lots of activity from the Red squirrels .. The restaurant is overlooked by the amazing www.Chateaunieuilhotel.com. We had an apero of G&T....along with a Amuse-bouche....what a lovely way to start our Birthday lunch. The Restaurant is modern and contemporary, but has a very welcoming atmosphere...the staff are very tentative, and very polite. The food is divine, and spectacularly presented..flavours bursting in your mouth, ve ..read more
