Please excuse my unintended absence. Sadly, my father passed away unexpectedly on April 28 and my sister flew up from Florida and has been staying at my house while we organized the services. And, in the midst of all that, I still had to teach my classes because it’s down to thee wire and getting someone to sub wouldn’t have been all that helpful. -Carla ..read more

Open or Closed?

Although I just wrote about lightening up the color palette to help transition from Winter to Spring that doesn’t mean that I am putting a ban on all of my darker colored clothes. This outfit pairs a velvet v-neck black shell with a classic black pencil skirt. I added this burgundy tweed jacket as the finishing piece. I wish that this jacket wasn’t cropped because I think that it would look more flattering on me. What do you think? I actually wore it closed because I thought it looked better, but now looking at these photos I think it looks better open. -Carla ..read more

Shifting from Black to Brown

Transitioning into seasons can be difficult! In Ohio, Spring time usually means lots of rain and chilly starts to the day, with warm and mild temperatures in the afternoon. I sometimes find that I need a completely different outfit for the morning than I do for the afternoon and that is a challenge. But, one tip that I can offer to help you transition is to shift your color palette. In the outfit above I am wearing a thin sweater and a heavier/thicker pant, socks, and shoes. I believe that this outfit qualifies as a Spring outfit because of the lighter colors–tan/khaki and brown instead of d ..read more

Polka Dot and More Yellow

Last Thursday I was able to cajole my daughter into wearing matching shirts. She wore a blue t-shirt with white polka dots and navy leggings. I paired my navy and white polka dot blouse with. . . . more yellow. I went with my midi length full yellow skirt and my mustard yellow sandals to complete the look. What do you think? Are you concerned with wearing too much of one particular color or do you wear whatever color(s) you feel like? Please let me know in the comments below. -Carla ..read more

Last Tuesday we had temperatures in the 80’s and it was glorious! I took advantage of the warm and sunny weather to wear this flowered dress. Because the weather was so mild I didn’t need to add anything over it. In this instance, I let the dress take center stage. I pulled my hair back into a low chignon–which I rarely ever do, and accessorized with some tear drop shaped earrings, a layered necklace, my everyday watch, and yellow ballet flats. I wanted to wear my new nude pointy toed slingback kitten heels with this dress but the strap kept slipping off of my ankle because of the pantyhose ..read more

Outfit Post: Black T-Shirt and Leopard Skirt

Last Monday I went with a slightly more dressed down outfit. That’s not to say that it’s not a business casual outfit or inappropriate for my workplace in any way. But, I paired a slim-fitting black short sleeve t-shirt with a leopard print skirt. To help tie in the black t-shirt, I went with my black leather espadrille wedges. I like how these shoes have the dark color, but the jute heel is lighter in color and gives it a more casual/laid-back vibe. The outfit is relatively simple, I went with my everyday watch, a gold necklace, and small gold earrings. What do you think? Is this too casua ..read more

Good morning! Right now, I am the only one up in my house. I am waiting for my little bunny to wake up and find her Easter basket. The Easter Bunny (me) also brought my husband some candy and he brought me some khaki colored linen pants. I am hoping they fit because I am thinking about wearing them to my in-laws today for lunch, pie, and an Easter egg hunt. Happy Easter to you, if you celebrate, and if not: Happy Sunday. -Carla ..read more

I’ve mentioned that last Saturday was my birthday and I received two items from my Amazon wish list from a long-time reader. The khaki skirt came a day before my birthday and the blue and white striped blouse came the day after, lol. Whenever I get new items I want to wear them right away and these two pieces were no exception! I practically wore them the first chance I got which was to work on Tuesday. I paired these two items together because I thought they looked good as an outfit. It was a typical Spring day on Tuesday–chilly and cool in the morning and much warmer and sunny in the aft ..read more

I wore this 1950’s style flowered house dress to work on Monday evening. I added an oatmeal colored cardigan for a bit of warmth since it is short sleeved. This time around, I went with my cognac mary janes and made sure that the darker brown shade was grounded with a color mate in the leather band of the watch. I would love to write more, but I’ve been trying to get this post up for the last few days now and there just seems to be so many obstacles! -Carla ..read more
