Client Q: “What do you think about Botox? Should I get it?”

Clients ask me this all the time. I can see them hold their breath a little, like they expect me to bash it immediately. They’re always surprised when I say that I’m not opposed to it and it’s an individual choice. I haven’t gotten it (yet) myself. I’m only 35 and I have good genetics, excellent skincare, and positive lifestyle factors (like an excellent sleep routine and an anti-inflammatory diet) on my side, along with a solid RBF, so I don’t have a lot of muscle movement in my forehead anyway LOL. I personally choose the route I’m about to outline below, as it’s a lifestyle that is importan ..read more

One esthetician’s unpopular opinion on makeup wipes
Renewal Beauty Blog

Skincare pros recommend against using makeup wipes for a number of valid reasons:   They’re not actually cleaning your face, they’re just smearing dirt around.   They’re usually full of alcohol and fragrance, which can dry out your skin and trigger sensitivities.    The residues left on your face can (sometimes) trigger breakouts.    And this is all true! However, I actually don’t mind if you use a makeup wipe, but under ONE CONDITION ONLY.    That you use makeup wipes as your initial step, to remove the majority of your makeup, and THEN use a face ..read more

Punctuality and professionalism: you are taking time out of your busy schedule to come see me, and one of my core values in business is to honor your time. Also, you’ll never see me mocking my clients in an Instagram reel for their choices surrounding their skincare or their brows, for more views.    The highest level of sanitation: using a clean stick every time I dip into the wax pot for brows, and wearing clean gloves for every service.    Up to date: on techniques, the best wax for your skin, etc. Did you know, I’ve specialized in brows since 2010, and taken countl ..read more

Let’s talk about STRESS

With the past year being one for the books, I want to talk a little bit about stress and how it impacts your body overall, and your face specifically. I believe that being aware of HOW something works gives you the power to make informed choices about the way you live, and this is my specialty when it comes to your face! Stress boosts the production of a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol can increase the production of oil (sebum) in the skin and this can clog your pores, resulting in inflammation and breakouts. (Increased sebum production around the time women ovulate is the recipe for “hormon ..read more

What the HECK is Slugging?
Renewal Beauty Blog

When I first heard of this recently, I thought “are we talking about garden slugs? That eat your lettuce? Or something in baseball? Nope, apparently “slugging” is a new skincare trend taking over TikTok, where you slather a petrolatum based product on your face at the end of your evening skincare routine (think Vaseline) and sleep in it, washing it off the next morning. Vaseline is a barrier. It locks in what you put on underneath, it keeps things out as well. I recommend a thin layer for acne clients before they swim in a chlorinated pool, as sometimes chlorine can irritate acne prone skin ..read more

I’m trying to be extra organized this year, so I’m asking everyone….if you need to reach me, please call or email the shop, vs messaging on social media. It’s important to me that you get a response the same business day, or at least get an auto reply letting you know when I’ll be back in the office, and when you can expect a reply. Please know I don’t mind messages on Instagram, at all, but I do sign out for long periods of time now and occasionally they slip through the cracks. I’ll be out for an extended amount of time for my honeymoon at some point this year, and it will set my mind at eas ..read more

Quick tips for dry skin
Renewal Beauty Blog

Is your skin as dry as the Sahara right now? It can take a constant effort to keep it hydrated in these winter months, with the heaters sucking all the life out of your skin. Remember, it does not matter how much water you drink during the day. If you’re using skincare that is stripping your barrier and irritating your skin, all that water will never make a difference on your face. Less is more with your skincare during the winter, think calming/soothing/hydrating/simplicity. Cut back on exfoliating. I know this seems counterproductive, because you want to get all the dry skin off. But over-e ..read more
