Finally, some good news from Boris! After the news of the 22nd February, we are aiming for a reopening date of 12th of April. Obviously, nothing is set in stone at this point but, like everyone, we’re staying optimistic. “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end” — Seneca As we step into this Brave New World we’ve made the decision to change the shop to an appointment only system. Being one of the dwindling amount of Tailors who make in-house, we find it more and more important to make sure we are making the most of our time. We feel that an appointment only system will help u ..read more

The Bespoke Tailors Benevolent Association - Festival Dinner is an event held at the Merchant Taylors Hall in Threadneedle Street and helps raise funds to support the Industry and the Tailors of tomorrow. It's a great occasion to meet up with others in the industry, exchange story's and share information. A big shout out to Birmingham based Tailor extraordinaire, Mark Purcell, for pointing me in the right direction of the ..read more

Brian Jones' 1960s suit
Robinson Tailors

Back in the late 1960s fashion was, well, different. Not necessarily in the suburbs, post-war Britain was still pulling itself out of the rubble strewn streets and dressing for necessity. But in London, a fantastical place occupied by Ray Davies' Mr Pleasant ("How's your brand new limousine? 24 inch TV screen!") things were very different. Our customer, Johnny C had seen that fantastic picture of Brian Jones making his much fabled court appearance. The suit double breasted with a wide boating stripe was quite striking. Johnny didn't want an identikit model of it but certainly inspired by. Init ..read more

Tailor & Cutter Magazine - A time when Tailoring had it's own Journal

It seems that, in todays world, everything is going digital. It’s something that I suppose has been happening since the internet became fast (and widespread) enough to accommodate pictorial and video content. We’ve had magazines, and newspapers all abandon the newsagents in favour of the parallel world of the internet. Costs are lower in this world, as such, tangibility seems to be an endangered species (though vinyl does seem to be bucking this trend). Alas, falling demand on the magazines shelves isn’t a new thing. For over a 100 years the tailoring world had its own dedicated trade magazine ..read more

Savile Row Granted 'Protected Status'.
Robinson Tailors
by Lawrence Robinson

For several hundred years Savile Row has been the byword for English tailoring excellence (of course Alcester comes a close second :o) but over the past decade multinationals have been creeping into the famous London street pushing rents up and traditional Tailors out.  Today, The Evening Standard, reports that Savile Row is among five 'historic London addresses' that will gain a degree of protection under "new planning rules introduced by Westminster Council". In order to open a new store on Savile Row businesses: cannot open if they replace "bespoke tailoring uses" must "sell, bespoke, uniqu ..read more

A couple of weeks back regular customer Mr Rory Duff visited us in Alcester with a request for something we don't do every day. Rory was going back up to the North-East and being the dapper gent he is, wanted to look his best when visiting. “‘I’m after a pair of Trews in a traditional Northumberland drab tartan. What do you have?’”  After looking through our many bunch's we eventually settled on a Fox flannel.  Rory informs us that the Northumberland drab is the oldest Tartan in the world woven before wool was dyed simply using b ..read more

A white jacket in construction. No pricked fingers allowed! Visiting a Tailor isn’t like going shopping – it’s an experience. But if it’s your first time round, understandably, it can be a little daunting. In our second post we’ll give you a bit of an idea about what to expect. The following process takes around 6-8 weeks depending on how busy we are! That said we have been known to slot in the odd ‘emergency’ and turn things round in a couple of weeks. Initial Consulatation Made to Measure or Handmade Bespoke o   We’ve kicked off with a biggy here. The ..read more
