My favourite thing about this video – the giant white dog prancing around at the start of the clip!
I, Audrey, am the dog lover in the relationship. My first pets were two giant German Shepherds, which at age 6 looked larger than life. I can’t say their beastly size ever intimidated me because they were the sweetest dogs – even if they were capable of crushing a bone and gulping it down in a matter of seconds.

Moment when you thought, “Daaang, I like this one!”
Get To Know Samuel & Audrey in this silly interview.
Samuel: When I first met Audrey I had this clever idea of trying to impress her with a late afternoon lunch at my favourite Indian buffet in Itaewon. I hadn’t been to this area in years and when I took her to where the restaurant used to be located it had been converted into a sauna. Fail. She then asked me about a second hand book store she wanted to visit. Of course I knew where that was. I didn’t. It had moved somewhere else. Fail. &nb ..read more

Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up by the swarm of people flooding the street of Insadong – Seoul, South Korea. After-all, it’s the distinct faces along Insadong that make it the most lively pedestrian area in all Seoul; however, it’s the artisans, street vendors, performers, crafts, antiques and details that given this ‘famous strip’ its cultural appeal. It’s a fascinating experience to encounter modern city slickers decked out in the latest trendy fashions competing for the same space as those adorned in traditional attire plying ancient methods of artistry.

As I (Nomadic Samuel) boarded a train with Audrey (That Backpacker) I knew we were heading on a journey unlike any other we had previously experienced together in Korea. Decked out in our ‘worst’ we were heading to an event where if we came back home looking anything less than covered in mud it would be an absolute travesty. The Boryeong Mud Festival is a summer event in Korea where getting muddy, drunk and rocking out are served up aplenty.
As we boarded our train heading from Pyeongtaek to Daecheon we couldn’t help notice all the ‘other’ Waegooks (foreigners) on board. &nb ..read more

Where did you teach?
I lived in Kyoto, Japan for six years while teaching in Kyoto and nearby Osaka.
What are the perks of teaching here?
Wow, sooo many!
* Japanese people are extremely polite, professional, respectful and honest. I really enjoyed working with all the staff, managers and even owners of the four schools I worked at during my 6 years there.
Contracts are honored, salaries are paid on time in full. I’ve heard stories of frustration by people who’ve taught in China about contracts and rules being suddenly changed. Nothing like that at all in Japan!
* Pay, perks and work con ..read more

First things first – What is Hong Kong?
Good question – it has its own currency, its own visa regulations, its own border and its own flag. In essence this is a country (and I personally class it as such), however it is also proudly Chinese, and both Cantonese and Mandarin are spoken here. Hong Kong consists of 4 main parts.
There is Hong Kong Island (the skyscraping commercial hub), Kowloon (a flambouyant mix of commercial and residential skyscraping buildings), the New Territories (the part that borders China and contains a lot of remote villages), the Outlying Islands (small island parts of ..read more

It’s no secret that Sam and I enjoy food, and Seoul’s Namdaemun Market is just the place to get our fix. Here is a recent video we made in which we tried to sample as much food from the local market vendors as possible, all in the name of ‘research’. We sure were stuffed by the end of it! It is the best way to try local food in Seoul, Busan or other Korean cities and for a cheap price too!
