Considering a trip to Alaska this summer in early july. The original plan was for Banff, but all the hiking permits are doled out it seems (for any of the trails people write blogs about... anyway). So, looking in to Alaska... Doesn't seem like the travel time or costs are really any different, anyway. One thing that I seem to have trouble finding would be marked-trail overnight hikes. It seems like the overnight hikes there are true wilderness hikes. Is that the case? Hi all, like the title says I'm looking for places to start research from. I love going to North America for the wild places but it's a big commitment and I'd like to connect with the places closer to home. I am UK based and have done a lot in the north west of Scotland including the Cape Wrath Trail. Getting out for real is limited here and there isn't anywhere large that isn't cultivated in some way. I also do love the alpine trails, but those are a different thing, I'm craving another expedition to somewhere remote. I got a Overnight Trail permit for May 22-25, I would be arriving at the trail head on May 22nd around 10pm, am I required to enter the trail at that time or can I start the next morning(May 23) from the trail head? Like I said early may will be my first time hiking and I plan on going alone, I have shoes and a general idea as to what I would need to bring but would like some more guidance as to what specifically I would need. Hello! I am looking for recommendations in northern to central California for a 2-3 night (10-30 miles, flexible on this) backpacking trip at the end of May this year. I am interested in mountain backpacking routes, however I am new to the state and am not familiar with how the snow pack in areas like the Sierras will be at this time of year, so I am really open to anything!
