Black Panther First Reaction
Millennial Movies – Movies from a Millennial Perspective

It is fantastic to see comic book movies that can have a strong social impact, we saw it with Wonder Woman and we are seeing it again with Black Panther. What makes this even better is that these are fantastic films. Director Ryan Coogler has done a fantastic job subverting typical African tropes whilst also targeting the treatment of black people, executing it expertly in an interesting and entertaining movie. Black Panther is a very impacting movie with a great cast, great soundtrack, interesting world and an excellent hero’s journey. Without a doubt, Shuri is my favourite character from Bla ..read more

Lady Bird Review
Millennial Movies – Movies from a Millennial Perspective
by Dylan Langes

In her first solo effort as a director and writer, Greta Gerwig creates a somewhat auto-biographical story about a teenager going through her final year of high school in Sacramento, California, in 2002. Saoirse Ronan stars a Christine aka Lady Bird (the name she gave herself), as she goes through the motions of her final year of school, setting herself unrealistic goals of which east coast College she will attend. Like all teenagers, she often clashes with her mother Marion (Laurie Metcalf), who is focused on looking after her home, working to support her family and other ‘real world’ issues ..read more

The Post Review
Millennial Movies – Movies from a Millennial Perspective
by Dylan Langes

We have begun to see in Hollywood, a string of movies that have been perfectly timed when examining the current climate of the world. We have seen movies made that tie into the Black Lives Matter movement, the sexual harassment cases in Hollywood and the Trump Administration, and despite The Post being a historical drama, it is all the more relevant. The moral dilemma of holding the government accountable for their actions coupled with the censoring the Press highlights what would seem like a simpler time compared to today. Steven Spielberg’s political drama The Post highlights the important r ..read more

Deadpool Trailer Review – Deadpool, Meet Cable
Millennial Movies – Movies from a Millennial Perspective

The marketing for the first Deadpool movie was excellent, from the little teasers hosted by Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool to the full trailers, even marketing it as a date movie for Valentines day. Up until now we hadn’t seen a whole lot of marketing for the sequel but that really isn’t a problem given how popular the first movie was, people will be excited for the sequel. This is the first full trailer we have seen and it hits the way you would expect any piece of Deadpool marketing too, brilliant. The opening to the trailer feels exactly like a trailer for a super hero or comic book movie ..read more

Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer Review
Millennial Movies – Movies from a Millennial Perspective

With not long until the movie comes out, many movie pundits and fans began to wonder when we would get a first look at the Star Wars spin off movie about young Han Solo. The movie comes out in the end of May and we have only just seen the start of the marketing push. Personally I am not phased my the delay in marketing, I don’t believe we need to see trailers 12 months out, and it doesn’t really matter when the footage comes out, I was always going to see this movie opening day. But on the Super Bowl we got our first little teaser and the next day we saw the first full trailer. I commented on ..read more

January Monthly Snapshot
Millennial Movies – Movies from a Millennial Perspective

Movie pundits often refer to January as the dumping ground for movies the studio doesn’t have much faith in. Fortunately, January is the month in which all the movies likely to nominated come out in Australia. I only got too review four movies this month but I left feeling positive about all of them which is something I haven’t been able to say after most months. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Image via Fox Searchlight This movie was fantastic, as a fan of Martin McDonagh’s previous film In Bruges, I had really high expectations of this movie going in and I can say it exceeded my ex ..read more

Happy Super Bowl everyone, congratulations to the Eagles on their win. As an Aussie I didn’t really have a stake in the game, but as a film fan I had a vested interest in all the trailers that come out. Check out my thoughts on all the teasers and trailers we got to see. Mission: Impossible – Fallout We finally got to see our first look at the moustache that ruined Justice League, just kidding, there was plenty wrong with Justice League, but it is a good looking moustache. I am a massive fan of this franchise and can’t wait to see this movie. This was a great trailer, shows just enough story ..read more

I, Tonya Review
Millennial Movies – Movies from a Millennial Perspective
by Dylan Langes

In 1994 an event occurred that shocked the sporting world. An unknown assailant attacked Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan after training, potentially ruining her career. It was later discovered that the ex husband of her rival, Tonya Harding, was responsible. This event ruined Tonya’s career and made her the most hated person in America for a time. I, Tonya is a documentary style film about the life of Tonya Harding (played by Margot Robbie) from the perspective of people close to her leading up to and including “the incident.” Interviewing Tonya, her mother, her coach, her ex husband and ..read more
