Packing size: Mentor 7L, Maestro 2L

Anybody been able to compare the packing size of the Mentor 7 light to the Maestro 2 light, or know where these figures might be published? I am guessing there is a significant advantage towards the Maestro 2 as it is significantly lighter and has shorter rods. I know the recommendation for the Mentor is to use a packing pillow or wrap around the harness. submitted by /u/Puzzleheaded_Two_321 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Frontal collapse Coastal Soaring

Hello! Coastal soaring South Portugal, ~13kph wind, 22 degrees celcius, 1:00 PM afternoon. Sandy beach at mid tide, 50m altitude launch, sun directly overhead. Home site, flown many times, on Ozone Buzz Z6, very comfortable scratching it closely in nice conditions. Launched, turned to follow ridge and lift, caught a 3 m/s lift from a thermal, spat out the back, frontal collapse, recovery, and bumpy return to LZ (beach) At LZ, the glide down was very chunky and with bits of lift and sink. Very irregular Speaking with other local pilots it seems that thermal bubbles will develop over the beach ..read more

Question on Powered Parachuting "Ultralight" Classification

I want to get into powered parachuting, especially because I've been offered a good deal on a two seat powered parachute. (It has an N-Number) But I'm confused on what the regulations are on flying. I am in the U.S.. It seem that if you fly an ultralight, you only need a drivers license, as it is a "vehicle". However, some places say that you need a sport pilot license to fly a two seater. They say that it's not an ultralight if it has more than one seat. But the classification on ultralight vehicles only says "used or intended to be used for manned operation in the air by a single occupant ..read more

Hey pilots sorry for the grim post xD I am trying to contribute to an article I know by Chessintheair.com I am trying to compare safety levels of a couple of air sports. I was wondering if you can kindly answer this: 1)How many people that you know have died paragliding? 2)How long have you been paragliding? Please answer even if the answer is none, in order to keep the stats balanced. Thank you and fly safe! :) submitted by /u/SailingFenix [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Paragliding courses and progression

I’m about to start my course, presumably this week. I am posting for three mainreasons: 1) I see a huge differences between courses around the world and I’m quite curious. 2) I’d like to know as much as possible what to expect. 3) I’m not entirely sure how progression after the course may look, especially to speedflying and XC. I’m located in Italy and here the instructor told me that the course lasts about 6 months on average. There are practical and theoretical lessons (which I believe include some meteorology). He told me that there had been a guy who went all in and came to lessons basica ..read more

Learning to paraglide in Hong Kong (or elsewhere)

Hey! I’m an airsports enthusiast living in the US and planning to move to Hong Kong in the next year. I’m keen to pick up paragliding as a new hobby (with some inclination towards speedflying in the future) but am curious about what the best way to do so is. Im a skydiver with ~500 skydives, and although I know that doesn’t translate to paragliding skills it does at least make me more comfortable under nylon than a beginner with no airtime. If anyone is familiar with the scene in HK, would it be worthwhile for me to hold off and learn there? It would probably help to learn where I’ll end up d ..read more

Modifying a Gin Yeti Xtrem 2 seat to fit the Skywalk Core permair airbag

Has anyone modified a seat like the Gin Yeti Xtrem 2 to accommodate an airbag? As far as I can tell you just need four loops to attach it. I am thinking of adding the Skywalk Core PermAir protector. The reasoning behind it is that I don't fit into the Skywalk Core seat and there are no other permanently inflatable protectors available in this weight class. submitted by /u/Jurcek01 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

The next few days are not looking good until Wednesday / Thursday Currently I am in a trip and close to Salzburg. The goal is to go to Slovenia (Tolmin) in the end of the week. Anyone has some good recommendations for flying sites the next days? Spots with micro climate that won't be affected by the storm. submitted by /u/Original_Past_9577 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
