Sew Liberated Nest Sweatshirt

When the Sew Liberated Nest Sweatshirt came out, I scooped it up super fast. Of course, actual sewing didn’t happen on super fast timelines. That Chronic Illness Life definitely slows down wants. I had two dresses from my pile of clothes to remake using the fabric that I thought were perfect for this pattern. The pattern is perfect for stashbusting in either view. I chose to make view B. I decided not to use the quilt block on my first version to make sure the fit was good first. I didn’t have to be concerned at all about that, though! The only thing I noticed in the fit is the length of the ..read more

Refashioning Projects

Rather than talk about why I have been absent from blogging pretty much over the pandemic, I am just going to be sharing a few things I have made lately. I am not sure about making a post on my absence. It would be a long one about all the nuances and sadnesses of being disabled in a pandemic as well as my health issues and also what happened in Ottawa in February. I am not feeling comfortable enough to share more (not sure I will), but I know taking smaller steps of sharing my creative projects will help me get there. I do want to share more here, on IG, and other places, but it’s tough for m ..read more

Welcome back!
Sew Pretty in Pink

Since starting this blog, I tend to have moments where I don’t post for a while due to my health and not having much sewing to share. I’ve been focused on exclusively sewing (with some smatterings of other things) since I began this blog. That changes now. This is no longer *just* a sewing blog and it no longer called Sew Pretty in Pink. Welcome to Andie Wells Studio! This space will include ALL my creative projects. During the pandemic, I returned to art as a creative outlet. It is a lot easier for me physically and mentally than sewing. My health has declined a lot since 2019 and I have need ..read more

Hello everyone! I’m super happy to be back and with something amazing! First off, move update. I am now in Ottawa! Ottawa is built on un-ceded Algonquin Anishinabe territory. We are getting settled and are mostly unpacked now but I haven’t been sewing too much in the past couple of months. Please click here to see my Land Acknowledgement that includes donation links and my mission statement. Helen’s Closet March top I recently did a guest post on Helen’s Closet. Full disclosure I did receive the pattern for free and received compensation for my blog post. Click here to see the blog post on Hel ..read more

Muna and Broad Grainger Coat
Sew Pretty in Pink

The Muna and Broad Grainger coat is an oversized, quilted coat in two lengths: hip length and thigh length. Click here to see the Muna and Broad Grainger coat. Muna and Broad has a fantastic size range and will grade their patterns up if you need a larger size. I made a size G with no alterations. My bust fluctuates between 51 inches and 53 inches and my hips are fluctuating between 51 inches and 54 inches these days, but I like extra room in the hips (even with the oversized style of the coat) so I didn’t fuss with grading down at the hips. The fabric I used is a faux shearling. It has a s ..read more

Introducing Workhorse Patterns Shona Romper

Disclaimer: I tested this pattern and received it for free. My opinions are my own, until someone offers me a house and lots of money, please? Click here to see the pattern page for the Shona Romper. The Shona Romper is a collaboration between Piped Dream patterns and Workhorse Patterns. It has two views: 1) A long-sleeve henley version of the romper 2) A sweetheart neckline version of the romper with straps. The romper has optional snap closer at the crotch. The henley version has snaps instead of buttons.   Here is version 1 of the henley style. My ribbing was unfortunately poor qual ..read more

Friday Pattern Company Sage Brush Top
Sew Pretty in Pink

The Friday Pattern Company Sagebrush top is a puffed sleeve top with a keyhole/tie back and a ruffle on the front yoke. I’ve seen so many cute versions and I can’t resist a puffed sleeve or a ruffle. I decided to create a wearable muslin to see if I needed to make any fit changes.  I used two different fabrics in my stash in two different colours of gingham. I think the fit is so very close. The shoulders are a great fit and that part I was worried about. I am okay with the back. There is some creasing on either side near the shoulders, but I don’t want to lose volume there and have ..read more

Muna and Broad Huon Shirt
Sew Pretty in Pink

I’ve been obsessed with the Huon shirt and dress from Muna and Broad since it came out. I’ve made a couple of versions of the Seamwork Jo shirt and it sort of has similar vibes, but the long sleeves on the Huon are what draw me in. I just love them!   I chose to make the long sleeve shirt version in size G, based on my bust measurement. My hips are a bit small for that size, but since the style isn’t meant to be fitted there, I knew it would be fine. I made no modifications to the pattern. I made it in a lightweight rayon twill from Fabricville. The shade is sort of a dusty rose. The ..read more

Love You Sew Abbey Convertible Backpack
Sew Pretty in Pink

The Abbey Convertible Backpack from Love you Sew has been on my to-sew list for a while and it’s also been cut out in my to-sew pile for a while. Ooops. Recently, my store-bought bag got a faulty zipper and started popping open or not zipping up. I figured it was time to make a new one. The Abbey convertible backpack is well… a convertible backpack/cross-body bag. The straps allow you to change their configuration to be worn either as a backpack or a cross-body bag. I’m guessing it could also be a shoulder bag, but I prefer the others. This sort of gives you an idea of the size of the ba ..read more
