Almost three-quarters (71%) of CFOs plan to increase employee compensation more than 4% this year, according to a survey by Gartner. The majority (58%) of increases will be between 5% and 9%. Contingent workforce employment dropped 8.5% in February, according to data from integrated workforce management platform Magnit. The company says this is due to lower hiring rates at the end of 2023, followed by a slower rebound in the first few months of 2024. For its analysis, Magnit looks at hiring volume, layoffs, and voluntary terminations across six industries. Nonfarm employment grew by 275,000 jobs in February, according to the latest BLS jobs report, slightly above the current 12-month average monthly gain of 230,000. Temporary help services continued its downward trend in February with the loss of 15,000 jobs.
