Job ad volumes on job board Seek Australia increased by 0.1% quarter-on-quarter at the end of March and 2.4% month-on-month in March 2024. Seek’s Employment Report for March 2024, published last week, showed job ads have been moderating for some time and now appear to have stabilised over the past few months. The 2.4% monthly rise was the highest monthly increase since 2022. Seek earlier this month published annual figures which showed a decrease of 14.9% in March. Australia’s Fair Work Ombudsman launched legal action against the operator of a weekend community Chinese language school in Melbourne. Facing the court are Western Chinese Language School Incorporated, which operates out of a site in Braybrook, and former chairperson of the incorporated association’s school council, Baoquan Chen. Australia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in March 2024 increased by 0.3% year-on-year to 3.8%, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Month-on-month data showed the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose by 0.1%. Overall, the number of unemployed persons totalled 569,900, up 57,300 over the year (11.2%) and up 20,600 (3.7%) over the prior month.    By state, the lowest unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) was seen in the Australian Capital Territory with 2.9%. Google is reportedly laying off an unspecified number of employees, according to Reuters, citing a company spokesperson. This marks the latest cuts at the technology giant as it cracks down on costs.
