It has been a while! In December of 2020 I published my first course, Create Authentic Style with A Small Wardrobe. Things got very busy, and in all the commotion, I forgot to update my blog. For 10 months. Here is the thing. I like writing, so I will attempt to update this blog a little more often. As you can imagine, things have changed over the last year. While I still live in Fremantle, and I still make a living from my YouTube channel A Small Wardrobe, it is safe to say my understanding of life has evolved. As a result, my attitude towards minimalism has evolved. When I think about it ..read more

The last time I wrote a blog post about decluttering, I had just moved to the country. I had freed myself of a life that I had felt really stuck in, and my new priority was to experience as much freedom as I could. And then Covid19 happened. The global pandemic has shifted our lives and perceptions in so many ways, to a point where I would actually even consider using a conjunction at the start of a sentence for dramatic effect. Because it’s 2020. My personal experience has been that I have had time to think about what really matters to me, and how I want my life to look in the future based on ..read more

I know it’s a bit late in the year, but I am a believer that every single day is a new beginning. I have seen several habits within myself that I have either been working to remedy for some time, or am beginning to work on now. This year I have made it a priority to stop my mind from wandering, and keep it sharp and aware. Today I have assembled a list of 20 things to stop doing now. I believe these things are a challenge to our joy, productivity, and overall ability to move forth in life. Breaking a habit is not the easiest thing to do. We are creatures of ritual and some things simply become ..read more

You may not know it, but a big part of the plan was to move to the country. On a subconscious level, the plan has always been to be movable. One of my oldest childhood memories is taking a red tote bag and packing it full of my essentials, ready to go on an adventure. This was a long time ago, in the 80s. When I decided I was going to pave my way in life with minimalist chat, I also decided I was finally going to set myself free, and become properly movable. If you have somehow arrived here by accident, I have a YouTube channel where I have chronicled this whole process. To understand the deta ..read more

BUSHFIRE APPEAL RESULTS

Hello team! Thank you so much for supporting my channel. Last week I vowed to donate the first three days of Adsense revenue from this video to the bushfire appeal. I ended up donating the first five days revenue, because, you know, those views aren’t worth as much as everyone assumes ?. I donated to three organizations, RED CROSS , FOUNDATION FOR RURAL REGIONAL RENEWAL and RSPCA. Follow my process below (illustrated in screenshots). First I took the estimated Adsense revenue and translated it into AU$. Fun fact - Adsense pays in US$! Next, I divided the AU$ amount into three. Finally, I don ..read more

I am currently in the midst of decluttering all of my belongings for a rather large change in my life - a move to Margaret River. This has inspired this week’s decluttering video. This is not the first time I have reduced everything I owned to move away. I did the same when I moved to London in 2011. This time the move is a little more dramatic, as I have a whole house of things to get rid of. In the coming weeks I shall be uploading content on the specifics of my decluttering process, but in the meantime, here is a free PDF to get you inspired. Today I am going through my place item by item ..read more

I finally feel like I am exactly where I am supposed to be.  My whole life, all I ever wanted was to make a living off my creativity. In 2018 I really wanted to monetize my passion project, A Small Wardrobe, but I felt this was not possible. I did not feel like it was a realistic goal. I did not feel like I had the ability or the right to be able to do this. In 2019, fed up with my day job as a high school teacher, I decided I was going to monetize A Small Wardrobe, regardless of what I felt about the subject. If you’re here for the first time, you should know that I worked a lot over tho ..read more

Creating Clarity Through Minimalism

Last week my friend Dan and I travelled to Tasmania. Tasmania was a destination I had wanted to visit for some time. We decided to follow a small circuit beginning in Hobart, moving through Queenstown, Barrington and Falmouth. Our stay was brief, but we saw a lot in that short time. An approximation of the route we followed in Tasmania Tasmania is a beautiful place with some marked contrasts, especially when it comes to weather. The west of the island is wet and cold, while the east side, protected by the mountains in the centre, is a lot more arid. On the day that we visited Hobart, the tem ..read more

Five Steps to Declutter Any Part of Your Life (ARCHIVE)
A Small Wardrobe

Originally posted June 27, 2018 It has been two and a half years since I began my minimalist journey. I have learnt many lessons in that time. Surprisingly, few of them have been about things. Without trying to sound like I am trying to ‘spiritualise’ minimalism, I honestly feel that the most useful lessons I have learnt have been about my values. I would have to say that I have applied minimalism to my inner being as much as my outer, and this has resulted in a much more solid understanding of who I am, what I’m willing to do, and where I want to go. This weekend I will discuss this topic mor ..read more

Minimalism and Decluttering | Discarding Your Belongings Mindfully (ARCHIVE)
A Small Wardrobe

Originally posted December 2, 2017 Recently on my Patreon feed I discussed the concept of ‘Mottainai’. This is a Japanese word reflecting a sense of regret over waste. ‘Mottainai’ perfectly captures my sentiment about decluttering. Today I want to talk about how to discard your unwanted belongings mindfully. Regardless of whether we find an item useful or not, time, effort and resources have gone into its manufacture. Simply discarding your excess belongings does not honour their true value. Many of our unwanted items end up in landfill, and as conscious consumers it is our environme ..read more
